Job Summary:

The Senior Tax Analyst position reports to the Tax Director, Audits & Projects and will primarily be responsible for supporting state income and franchise tax planning, modeling, and compliance, as well as tax controversy and some limited involvement in transactional activities and special projects.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support state income tax planning, including analysis of legal entity structuring, filing positions, apportionment methodologies, nexus considerations, and unitary/group filing issues
  • Analyze and prepare state apportionment data, including sourcing methodologies and calculation of state tax bases
  • Perform state tax analyses in connection with mergers, acquisitions, and dispositions, including filing responsibility, short-period issues, and post-closing compliance considerations
  • Preparation of NRG income tax returns, including corporate income and franchise tax returns
  • Calculation of estimated payments and filings, taxable income forecasts, tax allocation schedules and research of state tax issues
  • Assist with state income and franchise tax audits, including data gathering, issue analysis, and audit resolution support
  • Partner with internal teams (Accounting, Legal, Treasury, Program Office) to support tax special projects
  • Support process and technology improvement initiatives, including use of OneSource, document management tools, and AI-enabled solutions

Working Conditions:

  • Open office environment
  • Hybrid work schedule: 4 days in office
  • Overtime required as special projects arise

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of corporate income tax experience (a combination of working in public accounting and/or corporate tax department)
  • Advanced Excel skills required (pivot tables, vlookup, hlookup formulas, etc.)
  • Experience with AI-based automation, tax research software, and document management technologies
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
  • Communicates with clarity, both orally and in writing
  • Self-starter with ability to manage competing projects in time-constrained environment
  • Active learner - able to enhance personal, professional and business growth through new knowledge and experiences; pushes the organization to learn from other industries' standards and practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline required
  • Masters in Tax and/or CPA
  • Experience with tax software products like OneSource a plus
  • Experience with Oracle HFM and SAP preferred

  • Organized and flexible - ability to manage multiple projects/assignments, while meeting deadlines
  • Strong team player who is able to partner with others in a team-oriented environment within and outside of Tax function
  • Demonstrates positive attitude and acts with integrity
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
