Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Medical Surgical Nurse at St. Francis Medical Center, now part of CommonSpirit Health formed between Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health, you’ll excel in your nursing career by providing care to patients admitted to our unit. Most of your patients are funneled in from other units providing you with the opportunity to build on your education and experience in specialized service lines such as cardiac, telemetry, orthopedics, neurology, critical care, surgical services, and emergency. 

  • Assists with patient care duties/tasks (i.e., emptying drainage devices, ambulating, and hygiene)
  • Maintains knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices)
  • Utilizes safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms with necessary
  • Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury)
  • Anticipates, identifies, and responds to informational and emotional needs of patients and families
  • Guides and directs healthcare personnel (i.e., CNAs) in caring for patients

Incentives: up to $15,000 sign on bonus, up to $10,000 education assistance (must have graduated within 5 years)

The Medical, Surgical, Orthopedics, and Pediatrics floor at St. Francis is a 29-bed unit dedicated to caring for a wide variety of medical surgical patients including but not limited to orthopedic, neurosurgical, gastrointestinal, and oncology. We have an interdisciplinary team that strives to provide safe and exceptional care to our patients.

CHI Health St. Francis was established in Grand Island, Nebraska in 1887. Today our hospital is a regional referral center with more than 100 physicians and more than 1100 employees working together to build a healthier community. Our goal is to provide patients with high-quality medical care close to home where they can be supported by their family friends and community.
