Job description

POSITION: MTSS Behavior Paraprofessional - 31a Funded

SUPERVISOR: Principals, in conjunction with the MTSS Coordinator

This position operates strictly as an instructional and behavioral paraprofessional, completely free of administrative, supervisory, or disciplinary duties. This non-administrative role allows the paraprofessional to focus entirely on direct student intervention, and building-level system support.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Support students with academic and behavioral challenges funded under Section 31a of the Michigan State School Aid Act, helping implement multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and positive behavior interventions. 

DUTIES:

  • Behavioral Support: Implement individual Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), use de-escalation techniques, and promote Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
  • Supervise dedicated reflection rooms or positive behavior centers focused on alternatives to suspension.
  • Administer one-to-one or small group behavior interventions based on Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) strategies.
  • College & Career Readiness Support: Work with students in a lab setting on ACT Workkeys and other platforms focused on College & Career Readiness Essential Skills and Executive Functioning Skills.
  • Data Collection: Track and record student behavior, progress monitoring metrics, and academic engagement data.
  • Student Supervision: Monitor student transitions, lunch, and recess while actively coaching appropriate social skills and self-regulation.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities related to literacy and instruction in all content areas as assigned by the supervisor, as allowable under grant regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma required; plus an Associate degree, 60 college credit hours, or a passing score on an approved paraprofessional test - ACT Workkeys..

  • Certifications: Preferred CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certifications.
  • Clearance: Clear criminal background check and fingerprinting prior to hire.
