POSITION DUTIES
The Comptroller of Maryland's Compliance Division is looking to add two new supervisors to their Individual Tax Audit and Individual Tax Collections. Below are the descriptions of the roles this position entails in each section. If you're interested in joining our team, please consider applying. We look forward to meeting you!
Individual Tax Audit (Baltimore):
Nexus Supervisor: The Individual Tax Audit is seeking a Revenue Specialist III to provide supervision and support to those auditors assigned to the Federal Match & Income Generating Programs in the Individual Nexus Unit. Duties include but are not limited to training and providing assistance to auditors in the interpretation and application of income tax laws as they relate to the Maryland income tax returns, audit, and non-filer programs; monitoring the phone system in a call center environment; and assigning correspondence to agents within the Individual Nexus Unit.
Individual Collections (Annapolis):
Collections Supervisor: The Individual Tax Collections Section is currently recruiting for a supervisor in their Annapolis Collections Call Center Section. This position is responsible for training, monitoring, evaluating employees in the techniques of reviewing compliance and collection of delinquent taxes requiring extensive knowledge and comprehension of federal and state tax laws, both in audit and collection applications. Duties include but are not limited to maintaining employee attendance records; approving/denying leave requests; handling personnel matters via counseling, memorandum and/or incident reports; reviewing various reports to ensure employee performance standards are being met; reviewing payment agreements, wage garnishment and property lien actions requested by collectors; reviewing all cases submitted by collectors for waiver, inactivation or settlement offer; reconciling case balances, researching payment discrepancies, and authorizing account balance adjustments referred by collectors; reviewing delinquent cases for MVA license holds to determine payment requirements.
Both positions will be supervising a minimum of three to seven employees to responsibly and equitably enforce collection of various types of deficient income tax cases including but not limited to CP 2000, Fidos, Fagims, RARs, nonfilers, and regular assessment types.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate, including or supplemented by a course in bookkeeping or accounting.
Experience: Five years of experience performing work in tax assessment, collections, investigations, examinations, adjustments or taxpayer services within two or more of the specialized fields of revenue administration or performing work in tax assessment, collections, investigations, examinations, adjustments or taxpayer services within the motor fuel/motor carrier tax field. The specialized fields may include sales and use tax, income tax, admissions and amusement tax, withholding tax, alcohol and tobacco tax, and any other revenue levy authorized by the legislature.
NOTES:
  1. Candidates may substitute the possession of an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
  2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with twelve credit hours in accounting or auditing, for two years of the required experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in finance technician classification or finance technician specialty codes in the financial clerical and technician field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
