Job description

About Us

The federal government spends over $700 billion annually contracting private companies for critical services—from medical staffing and logistics to IT and infrastructure. Many of these contracts legally require employers to allocate specific funds toward employee benefits. Today, much of this ecosystem remains bogged down by complex compliance frameworks, disconnected vendors, and manual tracking systems.

We build modern financial, benefits, and compliance software that automates real-time benefit tracking, streamlines administration, and transforms regulatory complexity into a seamless software solution.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This is a hands-on, high-impact role focused on building, optimizing, and scaling our core platform.

We place a high premium on domain expertise in payroll, employee benefits, HRIS, or similar business-critical SaaS systems. If you have built complex platforms with intricate workflows, strict compliance constraints, or heavy business logic, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Feature Development: Build and deploy core features across our full application stack.
  • Systems Architecture & Scale: Improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of existing services and data pipelines.
  • Product Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Leaders to translate high-level business goals into robust technical solutions.
  • Technical Excellence: Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code, lead technical design discussions, and contribute to long-term architectural decisions.
  • Engineering Standards: Lead code reviews, champion best practices, and proactively eliminate technical friction before it reaches customers.
  • CI/CD & Quality Automation: Optimize automated testing frameworks, deployment workflows, and release cycles to maintain high execution velocity.

(Note: This is a hands-on engineering role where you will spend the majority of your time writing code, orchestrating AI developer tools, and shipping features.)

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications

  • 7+ years of commercial software engineering experience across web applications and backend systems.
  • AI Coding Tool Mastery: High proficiency with AI-assisted software tools (e.g., Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or similar environments). You know how to orchestrate these agents for maximum accuracy, safety, and output velocity.
  • Automated Testing: Hands-on experience with modern end-to-end (E2E) testing frameworks (e.g., Playwright or Cypress).
  • Scalable Web Engineering: Proven track record of building and scaling production web platforms.
  • API & Integrations: Strong API design principles (REST/GraphQL) and experience connecting complex third-party vendor platforms.
  • Startup Mindset: Exceptional debugging skills and comfort navigating high-velocity, fast-changing startup environments.

Domain Expertise

We believe domain context is essential for effectively guiding and evaluating AI coding agents. We strongly prefer candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Payroll & Employee Benefits (Strongly Preferred)
  • HRIS / Human Capital Management Platforms
  • Financial & Payments Software
  • Healthcare Technology & HIPAA-aware systems
  • Compliance-heavy, rules-engine SaaS platforms
  • Enterprise workflow automation

Tech Stack

  • Languages & Frameworks: Modern PHP (with strategic plans for long-term ecosystem evolution), React
  • Testing & CI/CD: Playwright, GitHub Actions
  • Infrastructure & Tooling: AWS, Docker, AI developer tools (Claude Code ecosystem)
