Both roles are essential in emergency medical services, but paramedics typically require additional education and certification beyond the EMT level.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EMT, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EMT, you need a basic understanding of emergency medical care, anatomy, and CPR, generally supported by completion of an accredited EMT training program and state certification. Familiarity with ambulatory equipment, patient transport systems, and electronic reporting tools is commonly required. Strong communication, stress management, and teamwork skills help EMTs perform under pressure and provide compassionate care.
