General Description:
Under the direction of the the director of STAR Academy the lead behavior intervention specialist will provide assistance to incoming Behavior Intervention Specialist staff by providing them with the required training and support using a systematic approach in order to expedite the ramping period. The Lead Behavior Intervention Specialist will model appropriate techniques and strategies, improve the BIS employee experience, and improve retention and provide best in class support to students with emotional disabilities. The Lead Behavior Intervention Specialist will provide assistance to children who are in an alternative program for emotional and behavioral problems.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum 2 years experience working with emotionally/behaviorally disabled/disordered students in a school, mental health, or hospital setting preferred
2. Knowledge of child development concepts and practices
3. Must have a passing score on WorkKeys paraprofessional assessment and high school diploma, or AA degree, or 60 college credits.
4. Recommendation form completed by the Director of STAR Academy
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Train behavior intervention specialists on behavioral strategies and approaches in order to maintain safety.
2. Train and model systematic approaches to all staff.
3. Communicates problem solving techniques to staff.
4. Communicate with staff to provide ongoing support to the classroom environment.
5. To work intensively with those students who have been unable to function effectively in the classroom and to immediately deal with individual student behavioral/emotional problems.
6. Communicates reality-based problem solving techniques to students.
7. Suggest and recommend ongoing strategies for behavioral/emotionally and/or academically challenged students.
8. Assists in developing and administering educational programs for behaviorally/emotionally and/or academically challenged students.
9. Assists teachers in the classroom by interacting with students who are disruptive, off task, or exhibiting other emotional needs which are interfering with the student's progress within the classroom.
10. Prepares or assists in the preparation of a variety of logs, reports, files, reviews, etc.
11. Escort's children to the bus, time-out, the nurse's office, and across campus.
12. Facilitate decision-making and communication between students and teachers.
13. Follows District Policies, procedures, and directives in a timely and appropriate manner.
14. Completes and maintains Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
15. Completes and maintains First Aid and CPR training certification.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to: Director of STAR Academy
Status: Classified Salary Schedule with District Benefits Package, 9 month position
