Job description

The Defense sector at Leidos has challenging and exciting engineering opportunities available now! We are seeking a talented Junior Software Test Engineer to join our dynamic Agile software teams in Omaha, Nebraska. At Leidos you will work with leadership who provide clear directions and sets clear expectations. You will work in a stable environment that values and rewards consistency and thoughtful approaches to meeting our objectives.

This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience to support the Air Vehicle Planning System (APS) mission. In this mission we support US Air Force mission planning requirements in support of the US Strategic Command. The selected candidate will leverage their skills in performing integration, formal and informal manual verification and validation of new and updated mission planning software.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Testing all product aspects within the software development lifecycle through software delivery
  • Create/run manual testing procedures to evaluate software performance
  • Work closely with other engineers to develop the best technical design and approach for new product development
  • Communicate software deficiencies and make improvement recommendations
  • Adhere to Agile processes and software testing best practices/standards
  • Use Agile development tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket/Git to manage work and collaborate with teams
  • Support creation and updating of all relevant test documentation and specifications for the application
  • Identify potential testing roadblocks and collaborate with the team to resolve
  • Plan and estimate testing tasks and work to improve process performance metrics
  • Closely coordinate with automated testing engineers to bridge test coverage gaps and improve continuous integration process
  • Attend various meetings including the software development team, program management and user community
  • Support metrics program by creating, collecting and tracking test related metrics

Basic Qualifications:

  • US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain at least a Secret clearance during your employment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline or related field. Candidates without a degree but with 4+ years of experience may be considered.
  • Experience with writing and/or developing test procedures
  • Knowledge of delivering an entire piece of a system or application
  • Knowledge of software design patterns
  • Knowledge of Agile Development methodologies
  • Experience with a version control system (e.g., Git)
  • Experience with an issue/problem tracking system (e.g., Jira)
  • Experience with multiple operating systems (Mac OSX, Windows, LINUX, etc.)
  • Proficiency with MS Office Products (Word, Excel, Visio, & PowerPoint) team player who can express and explain their ideas to others

Preferred Qualifications:

  • US Citizen with at least an active Secret clearance
  • Experience with DoD mission planning applications
  • Experience with USSTRATCOM Nuclear Planning process
  • Experience with the Air Vehicle Planning System (APS) for mission planning
  • Experience with at least one Relational Database Management System (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.)
  • Experience with SpiraTest software testing application
