We are seeking a Progressive Metal Stamping Set Up Operator our Ideal Tridon Smyrna, TN plant.  

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday *overtime as needed*

Shift: 2nd Shift 3:00pm-11:00pm

Hourly Rate: $22.75 + $1.00 Shift Differential 

Job Summary:

The Press Setup Operator will be responsible for setting up and operating metal stamping presses, roll mills, and other equipment to support Customer Product Sample Requests (PSR) and regular production requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates metal stamping presses in compliance with regular production schedules and customer PSR requirements and by applicable company quality and customer specifications. 
  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates the rolling mill and other associated equipment in compliance with production schedules & PSR requirements, and applicable specifications. 
  • Loads raw materials, such as metal sheets or coils, into the press and ensures proper alignment, positioning, and feeding to facilitate stamping operations.
  • Monitors press operations to ensure smooth and efficient production flow, including starting, stopping, and controlling press cycles as needed.
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks on presses and related equipment, such as lubricating moving parts, inspecting components for wear or damage, and replacing worn or defective parts.
  • Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions, process deviations, or quality issues during production runs and take corrective actions to minimize downtime and maintain product quality.
  • Maintains accurate production records, including recording production output, downtime, scrap rates, and quality inspection results, using paper or electronic documentation systems.
  • Adheres to established workplace policies, procedures, and regulations, including safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Required Skills & Abilities:            

  • Mechanical aptitude and technical skills in operating and troubleshooting mechanical presses and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of press setup procedures, die installation techniques, and press operation principles.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and production specifications to set up presses and ensure product quality.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools, measuring instruments, and gauges for equipment setup, adjustment, and quality inspection.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in conducting quality inspections, identifying defects, and ensuring product conformance to specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, process deviations, or quality issues during production runs.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and/or sitting and reaching with hands and arms.
  • May occasionally climb stairs, drive vehicles, and operate equipment.
  • Must be able to lift 80 pounds at a time.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education and experience required.
  • Minimum one year of related machine set-up and operation experience or a minimum of one to two years of related set-up and machine operation experience required.
