Job description

Changeover Technician / Metal Stamping Press Operator – 1st Shift

Put your mechanical skills to work with Clairon Metals!

Clairon Metals has an immediate opening for an experienced Changeover Technician / Metal Stamping Press Operator on 1st Shift. We are looking for a hands-on, mechanically skilled individual with experience setting up and changing over metal-stamping presses.

This position is ideal for someone who understands how presses, dies, feeds, sensors, and coil-fed equipment work; is comfortable making mechanical adjustments and troubleshooting problems; and can complete changeovers safely and efficiently with minimal supervision.

Schedule

This is a 1st Shift position with a consistent, fixed schedule. We offer some flexibility in scheduling based on production needs and the position. Typical schedules may include:

  • Four 10-hour days, typically 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Earlier 10-hour schedules, such as 5:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Traditional five-day, 8-hour schedules for some positions

Once established, your regular schedule is consistent rather than changing from week to week.

What Clairon Metals Offers

  • Great work-life balance with consistent scheduling
  • Starting pay based on relevant experience
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Paid holidays from Day 1
  • Comprehensive company benefits
  • Stable manufacturing environment
  • Opportunity to use and grow your mechanical and technical skills

What We're Looking For

Preferred qualifications include:

  • 3+ years of related experience with metal-stamping press setup and changeovers
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with die installation and removal, press feeds, sensors, and coil setup
  • Experience setting up and operating manual and/or progressive stamping presses
  • Ability to complete press changeovers and setup procedures with little or no supervision
  • Ability to recognize setup, tooling, feeding, sensor, or production issues and make appropriate adjustments within the scope of the position
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, protractors, and gauges
  • Ability to follow detailed setup sheets, work instructions, inspection requirements, and other written procedures
  • Basic math skills and good reading comprehension
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly regarding safety, quality, and proper setup
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work with a sense of urgency while maintaining safe work practices

What You'll Do

As a Changeover Technician / Metal Stamping Press Operator, you will:

  • Safely perform setups and changeovers on manual and progressive stamping presses
  • Install and remove dies and prepare presses and tooling for production
  • Set up and adjust feeds, sensors, and coil-fed equipment as required for the job
  • Verify proper setup before beginning production
  • Operate stamping press equipment safely and efficiently
  • Perform intermediate mechanical troubleshooting and assist in resolving setup and production issues
  • Make appropriate adjustments necessary to maintain part quality and efficient production
  • Inspect manufactured parts visually and with measuring equipment according to required In-Process Inspection (IPI) procedures
  • Follow printed setup instructions, work instructions, quality standards, and inspection requirements precisely
  • Complete required production and quality documentation accurately and completely
  • Identify and communicate equipment, tooling, quality, or production concerns
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Work with urgency to support production goals while maintaining Clairon's expectations for safety and quality
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

This position is performed in a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to noise, heat, dust, and industrial odors. The employee must be able to:

  • Lift up to 40 pounds
  • Stand and walk for the majority of an 8- to 10-hour shift
  • Push, pull, reach overhead, bend, and reach toward floor level
  • Demonstrate good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Safely perform the physical tasks associated with press setup, changeover, and operation

We're looking for someone who knows their way around a stamping press—not just someone who has operated one.

If you have solid mechanical skills, hands-on changeover experience, and take pride in getting a press set up correctly, safely, and efficiently, we'd like to hear from you.
