Annual Salary - $14,500
Purpose
The Technical Director has the daily responsibility for the technical operations of the Cody High School Wynona Thompson Auditorium, including lighting, sound, stage set up, and coordinating necessary maintenance those systems.
The Technical Director (TD) works with a great deal of independence and exercises independent judgment in performing a wide variety of duties. Because of the operating hours and performance schedules, close supervision is not normally required nor expected. The direct supervisor for the TD is the activity director and principal at Cody High School.
In general, the TD position requires the following:
- Operates, maintains, and safeguards the technical assets of the auditorium including the soundboard and system, as well as the programing and maintenance of the lighting system. This also includes the stage communication system and the physical stage facilities.
- Regarding sound and lighting: the TD will design, set up, and operate sound and lighting for performances related to the school district and community as requested. They will also supervise and train students, and other district employees to run the sound and lighting systems for different events throughout the year.
- For the fall and spring theater productions: attends tech week rehearsals and performances in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the production. They will work with the theater director to design the sound and lighting set ups. They will also supervise and train students to run and maintain equipment throughout the production. Along with the theater director, they will supervise and make sure the auditorium and stage are being used responsibly and respectfully.
- For high school and middle school band and choir concerts as well as elementary programs: the TD attends dress rehearsals and performances. They work the musical director to set up and design both sound and lighting for the performances as per the activity schedule. They will also supervise and train students and other district employees to run and maintain equipment for the performances. They will assist the musical director to supervise and make sure the auditorium and stage are being used responsibly and respectfully.
- For district meetings and HS assemblies: will attend and run sound and lighting for such events and assemblies throughout the year. Typically two or three meetings and three to four assemblies take place in a calendar year, but can be more.
- The TD will orient facility renters and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations; facilitates the use of the technical facilities by the resident company and others engaged by or renting the facility.
- Additionally the TD must monitor the condition of the auditorium equipment and arrange for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
