About the OpportunityKalamazoo Valley is seeking an Instructional Manager of Energy & Technical Career Training. This position's primary function is to deliver hands-on training for Wind Turbine Technicians, Corporate Training, Telecom Training, Confined Space training and industry specific safety training in an academy-style program. Duties would also involve working closely with the Program Director in formulating, developing, and revising modules, curriculum, and teaching strategies.
This position will also help recruit students for the programs and form sound working relationships with employers in the wind industry for program direction and for securing agreements for field work experience, and other related responsibilities.
Instruction takes place in the classroom learning lab and in the field. Instructors will function as lead technicians while in the field with trainees and mentor the next generation of technicians while working with them in operational wind turbines, telecommunications towers, confined spaces and industrial settings.
Additional Duties
  • Assess the effectiveness of training and make recommendations for improvement to curriculum and/or class activities. Instruction is executed in an academy or corporate training model with classroom instruction, hand-on lab activities and experience in live situations.
  • Ensure that students integrate 100% industry compliant safety policies and procedures, both in the lab during training and during live situation to mitigate the high degree of risk that is routine within the field.
  • Deliver technical services to industry and assist in problem-solving and training needs identification.
  • Document all legally required paperwork to ensure compliance with local, state and national regulations.
  • Provide facility tours, assist with summer youth camps, corporate training classes and safety training for regional companies.

Skills and Knowledge Required
  • Knowledge of principles, practices and safety requirements for all modules being taught.
  • Knowledge of functions, operations and/or maintenance of equipment being used.
  • Skill in working with students.
  • Skill in assessing student skills.
  • Skill in working with tools and equipment commonly found within industry.
  • Skill in problem solving and troubleshooting in critical response situations.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.

Other Requirements
  • Candidates must possess a valid driver's license, free of infractions that would disqualify them from driving Kalamazoo Valley owned vehicles.
  • Candidates must have a general understanding of Quality Management Systems.
  • If necessary, candidates must be able to travel out of state for extended periods of time to deliver or receive training.

Minimum Qualifications:
An associate degree and advanced training or certification is required with verifiable experience in one or more areas of manufacturing or skilled trades.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience is strongly desired. Corporate in-house training experience and/or instruction delivered in an academic setting will be considered.

Physical Demands:
Must possess vision and hearing levels meeting industry standards at a level suitable for working safely in those industry environments.
Work Hours:
Normal hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Field work is required and may involve extended hours and weekend work.
