We have a need for a Senior DBA in Charlotte, NC or Jersey City, NJ for our Fortune 50 client! This individual will be responsible for both application and system database administration. This is a contract opportunity with one of the largest global insurance providers!

Job Description:

This is both an application and system DBA role. Requirement is for a hands-on DBA with both database administration and database development experience. Also required is advanced expertise in performance tuning activities. Good written verbal communication skills are needed to work with various project teams. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, able to drive tasks to completion independently, and able to learn new skills on the job as project requirements expand.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for supporting production and non-production databases with the following technology: Oracle 11g and above, Oracle RAC, and Oracle Golden Gate on UNIX (Solaris and AIX) and Linux OS.

Responsible for standards and design of physical data storage, maintenance, access and security administration.

Performs backup and recovery on Database Management Systems, configures database parameters and prototype designs against logical data models, defines data repository requirements, data dictionaries and warehousing requirements.

Optimize database access and allocate/re-allocate database resources for optimum configuration, database performance and cost.

Requirements/Required skills:

6+ years of experience working with various database management systems in database design, testing, implementation, maintenance and administration in a multiple platform environment.

Experience managing very large databases (1TB or larger) is mandatory.

Experience with UNIX shell scripting is mandatory.

Strong SQL skills (mandatory) including the ability to rewrite complex queries to improve performance.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. *

Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work with onshore and offshore teams. *

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field or equivalent work experience
