Job description

The role reports directly to the Inventory Control Manager and has primary responsibility for the accounting, reporting, and control of inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS) across the organization. This role partners closely with Operations, Merchandising, and Finance teams to ensure accurate inventory valuation, support physical inventory processes, and strengthen internal controls in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.

This position offers strong growth potential, with opportunities to expand responsibilities as the organization continues to scale and integrate new acquisitions.

  • Lead the accounting for inventory/cost of goods sold and interface with Operations related to periodic inventory counts at retail locations
  • Assist in internal control documentation and policy implementation
  • Identify process improvement opportunities as it relates to the job roles area of responsibility
  • Prepare and review journal entries related to inventory, COGS, adjustments, and accruals in accordance with US GAAP
  • Perform account analysis and reconciliations for inventory and related balance sheet accounts
  • Support financial reporting and provide inventory-related insights to leadership
  • Communicate/work with other Corporate departments to research reconciling items
  • Utilize systems, policies and procedures to promote appropriate internal controls, best practices and efficient and cost-effective processes
  • Assist with audit requests and prepare supporting schedules and workpapers
  • Partner with Operations, Merchandising, AP, and IT to resolve inventory discrepancies
  • Support inventory-related system enhancements and automation initiatives
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and serve as a backup across accounting functions when needed
  • Undergraduate degree (B.S. or equivalent) in Accounting
  • Minimum of 2 years progressive accounting experience
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups and handling large amounts of data) required
  • Must be comfortable working in a high volume, data-intensive environment
  • Experience in Microsoft Dynamics NAV a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Professional Series (Excel, Word and Outlook) and the ability to quickly learn and use job-specific computer programs
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Strong communications, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to gather facts, analyze problems in depth and break down into components
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet, professional manner
  • Ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization promptly and professionally
