Join New Orleans Restoration Properties (NORP) as our Staff Accountant - Financial Operations and help invest in the future of New Orleans while building your career in real estate finance! We're looking for a detail-oriented, tech-savvy accounting professional to own the day-to-day financial operations of our organization - with a clear, supported path to grow into a full-time Controller role. You'll work under the direct mentorship of our Fractional CFO, gaining hands-on exposure to real estate development finance, compliance, and strategic decision-making. We're offering our Staff Accountant - Financial Operations:
  • A starting salary of $60,000-$65,000 per year, commensurate with experience
  • PTO

DO YOU MEET THESE QUALIFICATIONS?
  • 2+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related financial experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Solid working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and comfort learning accounting/ERP software
  • A genuine interest in using technology and automation to improve accounting processes and efficiency Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines independently Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • A growth mindset and the drive to advance into a Controller-level role over time

The following would be preferred but aren't required:
  • Progress toward CPA certification
  • Experience or interest in real estate, property management, affordable housing, or nonprofit accounting
  • Exposure to LIHTC/HTC compliance or affordable housing finance
  • Experience supporting a fractional or outsourced CFO, controller, or accounting firm

WHAT WILL YOU DO?
As our Staff Accountant - Financial Operations, you'll handle the administrative financial backbone of our organization while building the skills and experience needed to eventually step into a Controller role. Working under the direct supervision of our Fractional CFO, you will:
  • Own day-to-day administrative and financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes under the guidance of the Fractional CFO
  • Assist in preparing financial statements, reports, and schedules for internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready financial records and supporting documentation, including for LIHTC/HTC compliance Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and modernize accounting workflows using technology and software tools
  • Support budgeting, cash flow tracking, and day-to-day banking administration
  • Help document and strengthen internal controls, and ensure adherence to established financial policies
  • Coordinate with property management, development, and external partners on financial data requests Support audits, tax preparation, and compliance filings as needed
  • Take on progressively greater ownership of the accounting function, with a defined path toward a full-time Controller position
