PURPOSE OF POSITION:
A Cook at Catholic Charities:
  • Oversees the preparation of meals.
  • Executes and maintains an efficient, economical and nutritious food service program.
  • Receives and supervises the food donations and makes arrangements for the storage of food products and other materials necessary to the food service operations.
  • Monitors that only the highest standard of quality is maintained in the production of the daily meals.
  • Monitors that all kitchen sanitation and safety regulations are observed at all times.
  • Monitors costs of needed raw materials.
  • Monitors portion control, waste and maintains appropriate levels of needed inventory.
  • Manages volunteer teams in the preparation and serving of meals. Coordinates with Night Shelter Person for breakfast.
  • Participates in training volunteers in areas related to job description.
  • Maintains confidentiality of client and agency information.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Uses creativity and innovation in program development and service delivery.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participates effectively as a team member through communication, cooperation, information sharing and problem solving.
  • Participates in staff trainings and programs as required.
  • Any other tasks or duties as assigned.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic nutrition, common recipes and cooking methods for large groups.
  • Ability to respond to emergency and crisis situations per agency procedures.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Colorado driver's license.
  • Knowledge of the service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and the appropriate techniques and practices for the client population.
  • Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with Agency staff and with a diverse client base.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and/or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Pay: $19-20 per hour
Training: We provide a robust training curriculum that will support our employees throughout their careers. Training provided within the first year of employment includes: De-escalation & Safety; Mental Health First Aid; Substance Abuse & Mental Health; Human Trafficking; Trauma Informed Care; and many more.

  • Shift is Full Time
  • Extensive Paid Time Off (4 weeks accrual for new employees - increasing based on tenure), promoting work-life balance.
  • 15 Paid Holidays annually (shelters are 24/7, so if a holiday is worked, holiday pay is included.)
  • 403b Retirement Plan with Agency contribution of 4% & match up to 2% of annual compensation.
  • Choice of 3 PPO Medical Plans (90% of employees' and 75% of dependents' premiums are paid by the Agency), Dental, & Vision starting the 1st day of the month following start date.
