Job description

Performs laboratory tasks under direct supervision. Expected to understand underlying concepts of experimental design and to implement these concepts under direct supervision
A Researcher position is currently available in the Center of Excellence for Leukemia Studies (CELS) of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. CELS is dedicated to understanding the mechanisms that drive the development and response to therapy of pediatric hematologic malignancies. We are seeking a motivated, efficient, and organized researcher with a strong background in sample processing and flow cytometry to join our research flow cytometry core.
In this role, you will provide basic lab operation support to investigators by maintaining and operating multiple pieces of flow cytometry equipment, including fluorescence-activated cell sorters and analyzers. Candidates should be able to perform and coordinate a wide range of laboratory procedures and conduct support tasks as determined by investigator's research. Duties will include sample processing for flow cytometry, daily calibration, maintenance and operation of research equipment, development of efficient laboratory operations, flow cytometry panel design, data acquisition analysis and generation of reports. The position will involve interaction with scientists and trainees from multiple laboratories and the training of new staff. Prior experience with sample processing is essential; knowledge of flow cytometry techniques is highly desired. The ability to work efficiently, multitask and communicate effectively are integral to success in this position.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Performs laboratory experiments as directed using specific and prescribed techniques/protocols.
  • Follows basic protocols, implementing experimental techniques prescribed by supervisor and providing basic troubleshooting where appropriate.
  • Accurately records experimental procedures and data.
  • May draft results/data for posters, presentations or publications
  • Operates lab equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance

Minimum Education and/or Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific area is required

  • no experience required

Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $24.00 - $42.00 per hour for the role of Researcher in Flow Cytometry - Center of Excellence for Leukemia Studies.
