LyondellBasell is staffing for Technical Team Leads for our Channelview, TX Manufacturing Complex, located 18 miles from downtown Houston.  Our 4,000-acre Channelview Complex manufactures multiple products to support both LYB's Olefins & Polymers and Intermediates & Derivatives businesses.  The CVO site consists of a North facility with two Olefin units with downstream processing that manufacture Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene, MTBE, Alkylate, C5's and Aromatics as well as separate Methanol and Isopropanol units. The South facility uses manufactures Propylene Oxide, Tertiary Butyl Alcohol, Styrene Monomer, ETBE/MTBE and BDO derivatives. 

This is a truly exceptional opportunity for a high-performing Chemical Engineer to join our Channelview manufacturing team in a Technical Leadership role.  The position offers a competitive base salary, bonus, 401K matching, generous benefits package, pension plan and employee discounts.

The Technical Team Lead role is to supervise and develop a team of unit production engineers supporting one or more of the main production areas at Channelview.  The Technical Team Lead also functions as VEP Workstream Lead for their respective business area.

A Day in the Life
  • The Team Lead is knowledgeable in the policies and procedures to execute the CVO site strategy in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Provide technical expertise in PSM activities including PHA, MOC, PSV calculations, Safety Critical Equipment/Variables, Incident Investigations, Alarm Management, etc.
  • Set day-to-day and longer term priorities for assigned team members
  • Identify and leverage employees' strengths and development opportunities
  • Manage team members that participate in OE / PSM activities (PHAs, MOCs, etc.), Engineering, Turnaround, etc.
  • Ensure timely completion of team member assigned action items and/or defined data submissions; participate in review and extension meetings
  • Ensure site performance metrics are met through active management of team members workload and performance
  • Actively support site work processes of operations and maintenance that have touchpoints with the technical department and ensure work activities are implemented in an efficient and cost effective manner
  • Assist the production specialists and engineers with troubleshooting and problem-solving support to assigned team
  • Direct team involvement in identification of improvement opportunities then manage the work scope and support implementation
  • Review and approve technical details such as engineering calculations, project design scopes, emissions calculations, etc.
  • Partner with Manufacturing and/or Business to develop and implement plans to maximize revenues
  • Facilitate team member development of and completion of Performance Appraisals and Development Plans
  • Participate in STI and Merit increase determinations for team members
  • Primary backup for the area technical manager
  • Approve documentation when assigned such as Safety System Disablement, Management of Change, etc
  • Assist with development and management of assigned cost center details and budgets
  • Assist development of Capital and Expense Long Range Plans
  • Assist development of Channelview's Asset Strategy
  • Develop and oversee Variable Cost and Revenue Enhancement Tracking
  • Act as Co-Sponsor for relevant site procedure team (MOC, SSD, etc)

 

VEP Workstream Lead Responsibilities: 

  • Provide leadership to the Channelview complex for institutionalizing the Evergreen VEP process, Carbon Reduction, and Sustainability initiatives and developing the VEP 2026-2028 bankable plan.
  • Drive the value focused transformation at the site and ensure effective implementation of the Evergreen VEP process by monitoring the health of the work flows and Wave data.
  • Collaborate with site leadership, initiative owners, and stakeholders to take ownership in driving the VEP workflow from creating new ideas through completion of initiatives.
  • Train and educate the site organization on the deliverables of transformation and support the development of new ideas and best practices.
  • Act as an innovator and advocate for the transformation, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and organizational learning.
  • Closely collaborate with the Global Transformation Office, Site Leadership Team, Commercial Teams, and Corporate Functions to ensure the success of the transformation.
  • Analyze results of benchmarking studies, gap closure plans, and asset strategies creating focus areas for workstreams to prioritize the most important initiatives.
  • Lead by example, drive diversity, equity, and inclusion as key element of cultural change.
