What We Want
The SRS Research Administrative Specialist II is responsible for providing assistance to post-award administration by assisting in tasks such as data entry for cost sharing, reconciling of projects for compliance, assisting in the creation of reports as needed by project administrators, reviewing sponsored project travel and subaward invoices for project compliance, and other functional areas within SRS; assisting with TAMUS member questions, and providing information to their research administrators; and providing great customer service and critical thinking skills as they are a crucial part of the day-to-day operations of SRS. Interprets award documents, sponsor regulations, federal, and state laws/regulations, system policies and member rules in order to fulfil the responsibilities in assisting the Research Administrator with functional duties; working on project closeouts and assists with audit transactions, assists with compiling statistics and data, prepares documentation, and reports as requested; and serving as a resource to assist the Research Administrator in researching and determining solutions to issues associated with functional area assignments.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
  • Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years' experience in a specialized financial field such as accounts payable, payroll, student accounts.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Critical thinking and analytical capabilities with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Verbal and written communication, organizational, interpersonal, proofreading and time management skills.
  • Ability to apply problem-solving skills to problems, prioritize and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field.
  • Experience in sponsored research projects management and/or accounting.
  • Experience within the A&M System or other university setting.
  • Experience interpreting and monitoring compliance with federal regulations, including OMB Circulars and Code of Federal Regulations, as they pertain to sponsored research.
  • Progressively responsible budgeting and/or project administration experience.
  • Strong mathematical and comprehension skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel and FAMIS, and/or Maestro.
Responsibilities
  • Project Support - Serves as a resource for the post-award administrators to assist in determining solutions to issues associated with sponsored projects. Assists the project administrator with researching regulations to provide financial and regulatory guidance on standard issues to researchers, departments, and administrative offices. Assists with the coordination of administrative and financial details with researchers, department heads, deans, and other university staff with an emphasis on post-award administration of sponsored projects. Interprets/communicates award documents, sponsor regulations, federal, and state laws/regulations, System policies and member rules for/to researches and departmental staff. Assists with contacting sponsors for revisions and approvals which include budget revisions, compliance issues, change of Principal Investigator, time extensions, additional funds requests, etc.
  • Financial Review, Approval and Routing - Assists the project administrator with researching regulations to provide financial and regulatory guidance on non-standard or complex issues to researchers, departments, and administrative offices. Provides assistance with financial data, as requested, to researchers, departments, members, and sponsors. Handles non-standard post-award accounts. Works with project administrator with project closeouts and audits.
  • Documentation and Reporting - Documents and monitors cost sharing and is responsible for project compliance with research expenditures. Assists with compiling statistics and data and preparing reports. Prepares documentation and follows contract terms in closing projects and termination or transfer.
