Job description

FLSA Classification: Non Exempt, Part Time

Salary Range: $15-$17 DOQ

Reports to: SRJC Recreation Superintendent

Date: May 2026

Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the SRJC Recreation Superintendent, the Day Program Assistant is responsible for assisting staff with implementing, participating in, and adapting activities for individuals with special needs ages 21 and over who are enrolled in the Adult Day Program.

Essential Duties

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential duties.

  • Follow SRJC/Joliet Park District policies and procedures
  • Responsible for the supervision and safety of the individuals in the program
  • Ability to adapt activities and appropriately interact with adults with disabilities.
  • Ability to perform responsibilities as assigned by the SRJC Recreation Superintendent
  • Assist in providing appropriate communication to participants and parents on a daily basis.
  • Ability to implement program plans
  • Actively participate in the day program
  • Maintain program supplies and equipment


Hours

This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are Tuesday through Friday, 9am-3pm.

Work environment

This job will be performed indoors in a temperature controlled setting. At times, job tasks will include participating outdoors with varying weather conditions. Work environment may be loud at times.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 1 year of experience working with people with disabilities is preferred.

Additional eligibility requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Maintain a valid driverโ€™s license if driving company vehicle
  • Must complete DCFS Mandated Reporter Training upon hire
  • CPR/First Aid certification required or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
