What is the difference between Humanities Faculty vs History Teacher?
| Aspect | Humanities Faculty |
|---|
Humanities Faculty members typically hold advanced degrees such as a Master's or PhD in their field, work in academic institutions, and engage in teaching, research, and curriculum development. History Teachers usually have a Bachelor's degree in History or Education, work primarily in K-12 schools, and focus on classroom instruction. Both roles involve teaching and require strong communication skills, but Humanities Faculty often have more research responsibilities and higher qualifications. The main difference lies in the level of education, work environment, and scope of responsibilities.

CITY COLLEGES OF CHICAGO
City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.
Harold Washington College is currently seeking a part-time Faculty to teach one or more courses during upcoming terms. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and learning, commitment to the college mission, and a record of demonstrated success in the classroom in supporting and cultivating student learning.
Harold Washington College is proud to be a member of the Caring Campus network. Caring Campus is a model of professional development that works to implement strong and consistent behavioral commitments for all employees in regard to how they interact with students. As a result of this work, employees become engaged with students on a level that has not occurred before. The core benefit of this work is making a connection with students, many of whom have not had an adult who has cared about them in an educational system.
We are seeking instructors for:
Fine Arts/Cinema Studies (Art history, film appreciation, film history)
Humanities (especially: Cultural/ethnic studies, feminism/arts, Latin American/Latino studies, mass media, pop culture)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design courses to meet learning outcomes, and promote students' active participation in their own learning.
Create an effective learning environment that fosters students' intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student's ability to learn.
Contribute to and provide leadership in the student's academic and professional communities, and promote collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifying Academic Credentials: Credentialing for specific courses is determined by college policy. Generally, a Masters degree in the subject or a Masters plus 18 graduate credit hours in a related discipline allows an individual to teach within a specific academic area. Eligibility to teach is determined by transcripts, catalog course descriptions, and/or documentation from the granting institution that clarifies the content in the major is appropriate for the teaching assignment.Â
In instances where an instructor's academic preparation varies from the traditional credentials criteria but the instructor possesses relevant qualifications or experience to the teaching assignment based on industry or specialized accreditation standards and contributes to effective teaching and student learning outcomes, a request for an exception may be approved by the Vice President via the Tested Experience form. The Tested Experience form can be found on the Faculty Forms page of the CCC website. Qualifications to be considered may include, but are not limited to: on the job training in the industry or field, certification and licensure by a recognized certifying or licensing state, industry, or national agency, professional experience in the industry, peer-reviewed presentations/publications, or related dissertation topic.

Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies Courses: Master's degree or 30 graduate SH in Gender, Women's (i.e., feminist studies, not simply women-themed courses), and Sexuality Studies AND successful completion of annual CCC GWSS training
