Position Title: Senior VMware Administrator

Trident’s Integrated C4ISR Systems (ICS) specializes in products and services which improve the safety and survivability of our armed forces. We develop solutions for a wide range of demanding missions and environments, including tactical communications systems for multi-national interoperability, autonomous predictive maintenance and logistics solutions, and scalable, responsive, all-domain surveillance systems. Trident's integrated systems support the protection of the National Capital Region and various military installations both domestic and abroad. We can deliver innovative, high-performance solutions that meet our customers' evolving requirements by integrating our specialized knowledge in electronic systems with appropriately scaled development methodologies.

Position Summary

This position will be part of a team supporting an aerial surveillance system for a Department of Defense customer. The candidate must know VMware product suites and be responsible for architecting, securing, and optimizing virtualized infrastructure while overseeing enterprise-grade Linux systems. This role requires deep VMware expertise, strong cross-domain infrastructure knowledge, and the ability to drive complex initiatives from design through implementation and long-term operations.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Architect, deploy, and maintain VMware vSphere, ESXi clusters, vCenter, and virtual networking at scale
  • Ensure VMware applications and ESXi hosts remain current with operating system (OS) versions and patches as released
  • Test and install hardware, firmware, and security patches on all server and storage technologies as released
  • Systems Administration Daily Checks list and perform appropriate corrective action as needed
  • Apply STIGs, security updates, and hotfixes as made available
  • Diagnose and repair system problems, utilizing tool sets available and working closely with other internal groups and vendor support. Perform upgrade of VM Tools on all VMs within one week of update availability
  • Monitor and record weekly system metrics to include CPU, memory, network, and storage utilization to enable leadership to make informed decisions on the welfare of the virtualization infrastructure
  • Assess and ensure compliance of the virtual infrastructure security posture and ensure compliance with DISA STIGs
  • Develop and maintain documentation, which includes System Architecture Guides and Diagrams for all systems and hardware configurations adhering to organizational templates and policies

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and a minimum of 7 years of VMware and system administration experience (or 10+ total years in lieu of a degree)
  • Must have a Security+ Certification
  • Must be proficient in Linux
  • Two years of experience administrating VMware-based virtualization infrastructures covering vCenter and standalone ESXi environments version 6.7 and later
  • Two years of experience installing, configuring, and integrating servers associated with a VMware virtual infrastructure
  • Two years of experience performing backups, troubleshooting, and problem resolution for servers associated with a VMware virtual infrastructure
  • Two years of experience building highly available server clusters in a vSphere environment
  • Two years of experience maintaining VM templates for use on rapid deployment of virtual machines
  • Two years of recent experience implementing security posture and ensuring compliance with industry best practices, DA regulations, and STIGs
  • Experience Designing, implementing, and maintaining automation for deployment
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with customers
  • Excellent written communications skills to produce detailed and accurate technical documentation
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • VMware certifications: VCP-DCV, VCAP, or VCIX
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet)
  • Experience with monitoring/observability platforms (SolarWinds, Prometheus, etc.)
  • Background in security hardening, compliance frameworks, or zero-trust environments
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and influence architectural decisions
  • Strong ownership mindset with a focus on reliability, scalability, and long-term maintainability
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, especially under pressure
