At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us challenge the status quo and transform the finance industry together. We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).

Schwab Technology Services enables the future of how clients manage their money by delivering innovative and reliable technology products and services. As a Senior Technical Program Manager supporting Schwab’s Site Reliability Engineering organization, you will lead strategic, cross-functional programs that strengthen the reliability, resilience, and operational efficiency of critical production platforms. You will shape program roadmaps and guide automation initiatives involving incident response, operational workflows, observability, deployment, and toil reduction, translating complex reliability objectives into executable plans, measurable outcomes, and sustainable operational improvements.

Through Project Management, Strategic Planning, and Risk Management, you will establish priorities, milestones, governance practices, and controls that keep large reliability and availability programs aligned with business, technology, risk, and compliance objectives. You will use Performance Metrics, including service-level objectives and indicators, availability, mean time to detect, mean time to restore, and change failure rates, to evaluate results, identify delivery risks, and support informed Decision Making. You will also coordinate critical production activities such as cutovers, data center failovers, product retirements, and disaster recovery activities, ensuring appropriate cross-team planning, accountability, and support.

Success in this role requires Cross-Functional Collaboration with application development, infrastructure, product, GCC, and offshore vendor teams. You will build strong working relationships, communicate technical concepts and program risks to technical and executive audiences, and adapt program strategies as production conditions and priorities evolve. Your leadership will help reduce manual effort and operational risk, improve execution predictability, and scale more reliable production operations through automation and continuous improvement.

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of technical program or project management experience within enterprise technology environments.
  • 4+ years of experience leading Site Reliability Engineering, production operations, platform reliability, or infrastructure reliability programs.
  • Experience leading at least 3 cross-functional programs from planning through execution involving engineering, infrastructure, and product teams.
  • Experience delivering at least 2 production automation initiatives, such as change request automation, one-touch deployment, incident workflow automation, or observability standardization.
  • Demonstrated Project Management experience creating program roadmaps, milestones, dependencies, delivery plans, and measurable outcomes for complex technology initiatives.
  • Demonstrated Performance Metrics experience using measures such as service-level objectives or indicators, availability, mean time to detect, mean time to restore, or change failure rate to govern program success.
  • Experience applying Risk Management and regulatory or internal control requirements to delivery plans within a regulated or controlled environment.
  • 2+ years of experience coordinating delivery across distributed teams, including GCC employees and/or offshore vendor partners.
  • Experience managing at least 2 types of critical production activities, including cutovers, data center failovers, product retirements, or disaster recovery.
  • Experience establishing and operating a recurring program governance cadence that includes risk and dependency reviews, milestone tracking, and executive status reporting.
  • Demonstrated Cross-Functional Collaboration skills, with the ability to establish accountability and maintain alignment across application development, infrastructure, product, and distributed delivery teams.
  • Demonstrated Communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts, reliability outcomes, dependencies, and risks to technical teams and executive stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated Problem Solving and Decision Making skills, with the ability to synthesize complex reliability, incident, and delivery information into actionable recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP, PgMP, SAFe, ITIL, or a similar recognized certification.
  • Experience supporting technology programs in financial services or another highly regulated industry.
  • Experience using Strategic Planning to refine Site Reliability Engineering program strategies, roadmaps, or operating models as production, platform, and business priorities change.
  • Demonstrated Process Improvement experience identifying opportunities to reduce manual effort, operational toil, delivery variation, or production risk through scalable automation.
