Senior Process Engineer

Role Overview
The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for performing process engineering design functions for Mitsubishi Power's power generation projects across the Americas. This position supports the design of combustion and steam turbine auxiliary systems, process equipment, and process control and instrumentation integration, as well as start-up support activities. The role ensures designs meet contractual and schedule requirements and requires strong analytical skills, technical expertise, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare heat and material balances and process flow diagrams (PFDs)
  • Develop and manage piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Create process data sheets for equipment and instrumentation
  • Apply process instrumentation and control principles to design solutions
  • Perform and review hydraulic calculations
  • Conduct heat exchanger thermal calculations
  • Perform pump sizing and equipment selection
  • Support pressure safety valve (PSV) design activities
  • Apply basic understanding of engineering design workflows and procedures
  • Maintain working knowledge of Mitsubishi Power core products and technologies
  • Participate in collaborative, team-based project environments focused on quality and customer satisfaction
  • Attend, contribute to, or lead meetings during Japanese normal business hours as required
  • Travel up to 15%, including visits to customer offices and construction sites
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from a four-year ABET-accredited institution
  • 7-10 years of experience with an EPC firm or combustion and steam turbine OEM
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with system simulations using AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, or equivalent software
  • Equipment design and rating experience such as heat exchangers, pumps, and vessels
  • Pressure safety valve (PSV) design experience
  • Knowledge of gas pipeline codes and standards
  • Experience managing P&IDs

Preferred qualifications include experience with natural gas compressor design and operation, pressure regulating skids, HAZOP and SIL reviews, construction punch-out, project start-up activities, SmartPlant P&ID software, natural gas conditioning equipment, control valve specification, HRSG or boiler design, and combined cycle heat and material balance creation or performance testing. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required; VBA experience is beneficial. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics is expected. Japanese, Spanish, or Portuguese language skills are beneficial but not required.
