Introduction:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager - Direct Tax to join our team. This position is responsible for oversight and management of the U.S. Direct Tax function for the various Metso businesses in the U.S. Additionally, the role may include aspects related to management and administration of various other activities, as needed/assigned. 


This position is mainly located in Brookfield, Wisconsin, but we are happy to offer flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options. This position could include up to 20% travel. 


What you'll do:

  • Oversee outsourced tax compliance activities, including preparation, review, and electronic filing of tax returns.
  • Manage quarterly IFRS tax provisions, postings, and coordination with external financial auditors.
  • Provide support on transfer pricing and international tax matters (e.g., permanent establishment, withholding taxes) for Metso USA Inc.
  • Lead tax audits, proactively respond to tax authority notices, and ensure successful resolution.
  • Administer tax software, tax registrations, and business registrations as required.
  • Partner with Business Units by providing tax guidance, collecting financial data, and assisting with tax-related matters.
  • Prepare and manage intercompany tax billings, tax due diligence for acquisitions, and Tax Department policies and procedures.
  • Mentor staff, deliver tax training, support performance reviews and goal setting, and execute special projects as needed.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's Degree & Master's Degree &/or CPA Certification required
  • Minimum 10 years experience in Direct Taxes, including managing and developing staff 
  • Experience with various tax technology compliance and research products, including (but not limited to) Thomson Reuters OneSource, RIA CheckPoint, Sage Fixed Assets, etc.
  • In-depth Direct Tax experience. Big 4 and corporate blend a plus  
  • Working knowledge of tax compliance and tax research technology products
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects and tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills, focused on customer service and staff supervision
  • Strong negotiation skills, particularly in the context of managing tax audits  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to discuss tax issues in layman's terms with Business Units
  • Develop and manage strong relationships with business partners, including Business Units, Global Business Services, tax auditors and customers
