Job description

Who You Are

As a designer, you understand that experience goes beyond interface, and that design value lies in the resulting decisions. You design integrated systems, from digital products to operational workflows and organizational structures. A collaborative systems thinker, you ensure experiences are user-centered, resilient, and aligned with business needs.

You thrive on complex challenges with diverse stakeholders, synthesizing competing inputs into actionable design direction, and guiding others to simple, elegant solutions. You excel at finding hidden insights and patterns across organizational siloes, using design practice to translate thinking into conceptual models that align and spur action. Your work is grounded in empathy for users, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering practical outcomes that help users make informed choices.

About the Role

Justworks is seeking a Senior Experience Designer to join our Internal Experiences Design team. This team is responsible for the experiences that bridge our product, service and operations together.
This role requires deep collaboration with peers in Engineering, Product Management, Data, Research and Compliance, as well as close partnership with stakeholders in Operations, Customer Success, Sales, Finance, and Underwriting.

In this role, you'll help to enable and create experiences for Justworks seller, service and operational layers in order to elevate the overall customer experience.

Your Success ProfileWhat You Will Work On
  • Advocate for Justworks users and champion operational simplicity across all touchpoints; balancing UX concerns with business goals, technological constraints, and broader company strategy.
  • Collaborate closely with partners in Product, Engineering, Research and Data  to define scope and align on user and business goals.
  • Participate in discovery efforts and leverage insights to frame design problems and translate them into actionable solutions.
  • Partner with peers in other design teams to extend and adapt systems where necessary.
  • Help guide and support less-experienced designers contributing to shared efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
How You Will Do Your Work

As a Senior Experience Designer, how results are achieved is as important as the results themselves. Success in this role is anchored in the following competencies:

  • Customer Focus: Advocate for user needs and balance these with business constraints, grounding design in insights and data.
  • Systems thinking: Design across connected steps and decisions, rather than isolated features.
  • Craft excellence: Deliver high-quality, polished work that aligns with the Justworks brand and design system guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with partners in Engineering, Product, Data, and Research to shape and deliver solutions.
  • Communication: Use artifacts and storytelling to build shared understanding and guide team decisions.
  • Adaptability: Stay grounded in user needs while flexing approaches to meet evolving context or constraints.

In addition, all Justworkers focus on aligning their behaviors to our core values known as COGIS. It stands for:

  • Camaraderie - Day to day you can be seen working together toward a higher purpose. You like to have fun. You're an active listener, treat people respectfully, and have a strong desire to know and help others.
  • Openness - Your default is to be open. You're willing to share information, understand other perspectives, and consider new possibilities. You're curious, ask open questions, and are receptive to thoughts and feedback from others.
  • Grit - You demonstrate grit by having the courage to commit and persevere. You're committed, earnest, and dive in to get the job done well with a positive attitude.
  • Integrity - Simply put, do what you say and say what you'll do. You're honest and forthright, have a strong moral compass, and strive to match your words with your actions while leading by example.
  • Simplicity - Be like Einstein: "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler."
Qualifications

Prior Experience

  • 5+ years of professional experience in designing for complex, integrated human/software service delivery, ideally in human resources, healthcare, insurance, benefits, or related domains.
  • Strong collaboration experience working as part of a cross-functional team, collaborating fluidly with engineers, product managers, researchers, data scientists, and others.
  • Ability to visually model complex information structures and use these models to communicate complex ideas, reveal insights, and align non-design audiences to a problem/solution space.
  • Practical understanding of how qualitative and quantitative research and data inform product and design decisions.
  • Attention to detail, and a refined sense of craft in visual design, typography, and brand expression.
  • Fluency in Figma and other common design tools.

Portfolio

  • A portfolio of case studies demonstrating experience leading complex product design efforts, including clear problem framing, collaboration processes, final solutions, and measurable outcomes.

The base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $166,000.00 to $214,000.00 per year.
