What is an SR&ED consultant?

SR&ED consultants are professionals who specialize in helping businesses identify, document, and submit claims for the Canadian Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax incentive program. They assist companies in understanding which projects and expenses qualify for the program, prepare the necessary technical and financial documentation, and ensure that claims comply with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements. Their expertise can help maximize the value of SR&ED credits and streamline the application process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an SR&ED consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as an SR&ED Consultant, you need a solid background in science, engineering, or technology, along with expertise in tax law and a relevant degree. Proficiency with tax preparation software, technical documentation tools, and a strong understanding of CRA guidelines is typically required. Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills help consultants effectively assess projects and liaise with clients and tax authorities. These abilities are critical for accurately preparing claims, maximizing client benefits, and ensuring compliance with complex SR&ED regulations.

What are some common challenges faced by SR&ED consultants when preparing client claims?

SR&ED Consultants often encounter challenges such as accurately identifying eligible activities, gathering sufficient technical documentation, and interpreting complex program guidelines. Ensuring that a client’s projects meet the Canadian Revenue Agency’s criteria for scientific research and experimental development requires strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Effective communication with technical staff and finance teams is also essential to bridge gaps in understanding and to assemble robust, compliant claims. Consultants may also face tight deadlines, so strong project management skills are valuable in this role.

Job description

SitelogIQ is a rapidly growing company focused on making buildings better. We provide planning, design, and management solutions for organizations that want efficient and sustainable building environments that are healthier and safer for their occupants.

Our Senior Educational Consultant will work out of our Midwest Division, located in Edina, Minnesota.  The Senior Educational Consultant serves as the front end of SitelogIQ’s business development process within the PK–12 education market. This role is responsible for building trusted relationships across a defined regional K–12 network, promoting the SitelogIQ brand and value proposition, and generating qualified opportunities for our Planning Executives.

As a visible ambassador of SitelogIQ, the Senior Educational Consultant integrates deeply within the local education community. By cultivating authentic partnerships and identifying district needs, this individual creates pathways for conversations around master facilities planning and facility improvement solutions that support equitable educational environments.

This role requires a service-oriented leader who is passionate about education, well-connected within the PK–12 community, and skilled at opening doors that lead to long-term partnerships.

The base salary for this role is $90,000 plus commission. The salary may vary within the range based on factors such as location of the role, and a candidate’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Senior Educational Consultant Responsibilities

Relationship Development & Market Engagement

  • Develop and maintain a strong professional network within the PK–12 education community.
  • Build and nurture relationships with superintendents, business officials, facilities leaders, and other district stakeholders.
  • Attend and actively participate in PK–12 conferences, conventions, workshops, and committee meetings.
  • Generate referrals and introductions through established professional relationships.

Opportunity Generation & Qualification

  • Conduct introductory outreach and first-call conversations with target districts.
  • Generate 5–10 meaningful interactions weekly with prospective districts.
  • Partner with SitelogIQ Analysts to qualify and prioritize target opportunities.
  • Create pathways for Planning Executives to engage districts in facility assessments and planning conversations.

Collaboration & Transition

  • Attend initial meetings and project kickoffs alongside Planning Executives.
  • Serve as a liaison during early-stage engagement to ensure a seamless transition to the broader development team.
  • Maintain strong relationships with partners while proactively identifying new opportunities within the region.
    • Demonstrate the ability to remain “sticky” with partners—building trust and staying engaged throughout the relationship lifecycle

Senior Educational Consultant Qualifications

Required

  • Prior leadership experience in PK–12 education (e.g., superintendent, administrator, district leader, or similar role).
  • Established credibility and strong standing within educational and professional organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain trusted relationships within the public PK–12 sector.
  • Proven track record of developing partnerships with integrity, energy, and humility.
  • Valid drivers license and willingness to travel up to 50%.

Core Competencies

  • Service-oriented mindset with both external partners and internal teammates.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect authentically and build rapport.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
