Job description

Job Title: Coaching (2025-26)

St. Catherine's School is an Episcopal day school in Richmond, Virginia, founded in 1890 enrolling roughly 950 girls age 3 through grade 12. Located on a 16-acre campus in the western part of the city, with additional athletic facilities at our Goochland Campus and at St. Christopher's. St. Catherine's core values include pursuing academic excellence, developing character, nurturing spiritual growth, celebrating individuals, and building community.

The athletic program includes 40+ teams in 14 sports with approximately 70% of students in grades 7-12 participating. We are looking for experienced coaches who are interested in long-term commitments to join very established programs.

Supervisor: Director of Athletics

Position Status: Part Time-Seasonal

Hours of Work: Varies by sport, generally between 3:30-5:45pm, or 5:00-7:30pm. Some varsity sports have Saturday practices and/or competitions.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidate has successful coaching experience at the college, high school, and/or middle school level.
  • Candidate demonstrates a coaching philosophy that aligns with the Sport Education Model (SEM)
  • Candidate can provide references supporting previous coaching success and professionalism.
  • Candidate is available for team practices and competitions

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking candidates who:

  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills
  • Have proven head coaching experience and a record of success
  • Understand the mission of the School
  • Have the ability to manage large groups of people, including the program coaching staff
  • Have exceptional multi-tasking skills
  • Have experience including and working with very involved parents
  • Set a tone of professionalism among coaches, athletes, and parents
  • Are interested in the long-term building of the program
  • Can help attract and retain strong pool of coaches for all levels of the program
