Job description

At HBS the data analytics team strives to be transformative leaders that support our internal and external stakeholders in maximizing their potential and carrying value forward into the healthcare system and people’s everyday lives. A successful candidate in this role will efficiently facilitate the flow of information to stakeholders and contribute to data curation and maintenance using SQL and business intelligence best practices. This includes building reports, ad hoc queries, analytics, contributing to the enterprise data warehouse and data marts, conducting stakeholder interviews, creating business requirements documents, QA testing, and collaborating with other data analysts and engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and grow a deep understanding of the business needs, processes, and functions to effectively contribute to stakeholder conversations and work with a certain degree of autonomy.
  • Actively contribute to the development and implementation of data marts, enterprise data warehouse, reports, analytics, and other data solutions by writing SQL scripts for ETL, reports, error handling, and QA.
  • Complete ad hoc requests and analytics in a timely manner and accurately; correctly qualify requests through questioning and identify a reference point and/or test cases to validate. May be done using SQL, Excel, PowerBI, or other sources as appropriate.
  • Build reports and dashboards for ongoing use in Power BI. Gather user requirements and business case, create documentation and definitions, write SQL queries and DAX statements if needed, adhere to design standards, and publish well thought out and vetted dashboards that have good adoption and business value.
  • Review client and internal data for accuracy and completeness, raise data quality issues to the team, help manage, communicate, and resolve the issue log.
  • Clearly document data transformations and cleansing business rules.
  • Support new client or new product onboarding ETL testing and building.
  • Support internal system or process changing, working with stakeholders to maintain data integrity during change.
  • Comply with all security and privacy requirements.
  • Continuously research and stay current on data trends, technologies, and best practices, identifying opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years proven experience as a Data Analyst, Business Analyst, SQL Developer, or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of business intelligence practices such as business requirements documentation, ETL, data normalization, star schema, and quality assurance.
  • Proficiency in SQL and PowerBI.
  • Healthcare revenue cycle or claims experience is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
