Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Calabro Cheese Corporation is an Italian cheese manufacturer based in East Haven, CT. We are looking for an experienced Sanitation Supervisor to lead our 2nd shift sanitation team and ensure our production facility meets the highest standards of cleanliness and food safety.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Sanitation & Cleaning

- Oversee and participate in cleaning and sanitizing of all production areas, equipment, and surfaces during the 2nd shift

- Ensure all tasks are completed per the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) and SSOPs

- Conduct pre-operational inspections before production start-up

- Monitor proper use of cleaning chemicals, concentrations, and contact times

- Maintain accurate sanitation logs and cleaning records

- Respond promptly to spills or unplanned cleaning needs


Team Supervision

- Supervise, train, and direct 2nd shift sanitation team members

- Conduct pre-shift meetings and on-the-job training for new hires

- Enforce attendance, safety, and conduct policies

- Coordinate with other shift supervisors for smooth handoffs


Food Safety & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, OSHA, GMP, and HACCP standards

- Support third-party audits and regulatory inspections

- Report and escalate food safety deviations or non-conformances immediately

- Participate in root cause analysis for sanitation findings


Equipment & Chemicals

- Manage inventory of cleaning chemicals and supplies

- Ensure proper chemical storage, labeling, and SDS compliance

- Inspect sanitation equipment and coordinate maintenance repairs as needed


REQUIREMENTS

- 2–3 years of sanitation experience in food manufacturing or a similarly regulated environment

- At least 1 year of supervisory or lead experience

- Working knowledge of GMP, HACCP, SSOPs, and food safety regulations

- Familiarity with CIP (Clean-in-Place) and COP (Clean-out-of-Place) systems

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a wet, cold, physical environment

- Availability for 2nd shift hours including weekends and holidays

- Bilingual English/Spanish is a strong plus


PREFERRED

- Experience in cheese, dairy, or specialty food manufacturing

- PCQI, ServSafe, or equivalent food safety certification

- Experience with third-party audits (SQF, BRC, FDA)
