Spring Maker Jobs in Illinois (NOW HIRING)

We are seeking an experienced Springmaker / Spring Finisher / Heavy Lathe Operator to operate bench and floor coiling lathes and produce a wide variety of precision springs and steel components. The ideal candidate will be comfortable performing machine setups, selecting tooling and operating parameters, inspecting finished products, making adjustments for material variations, and completing secondary spring-finishing operations. This role also includes Magnaflux testing and inspection to identify material defects.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate bench and floor coiling lathes to manufacture springs in various sizes, shapes, and configurations.
• Work with a variety of materials, including steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, and other alloys.
• Select and install the appropriate mandrels, gears, tooling, speeds, and machine settings to achieve specified lead, pitch, diameter, and spring dimensions.
• Interpret job specifications and visualize the finished product to determine appropriate allowances for finishing and forming operations.
• Perform accurate machine setups and make operating adjustments to maintain product quality and dimensional requirements.
• Produce springs to close tolerances, carefully checking dimensions throughout the manufacturing process.
• Inspect sample springs and coordinate or perform heat-treating processes as required to verify compliance with specifications.

  • Forming and other secondary finishing processes
• Perform Magnaflux testing on springs and steel parts to identify cracks, defects, and other material discontinuities.
• Maintain Magnaflux testing solutions and ensure proper solution concentration and operating conditions.
• Complete required inspection records, production reports, and quality documentation accurately.
• Monitor equipment, tooling, and material conditions and make adjustments as necessary to maintain consistent production quality.
• Identify unusual machine conditions, material defects, or quality issues and report them promptly to the supervisor.
• Perform routine checks of finished products to ensure they meet dimensional, visual, and quality specifications.
• Maintain machines, tools, and work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
• Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, work instructions, and production requirements.
• Perform additional manufacturing and finishing duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating coiling lathes, spring-making equipment, heavy lathes, or similar manufacturing machinery preferred.
• Experience with spring manufacturing and finishing operations strongly preferred.
• Ability to work with steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, and other metal alloys.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform machine setups and adjustments.
• Ability to read and follow blueprints, specifications, work instructions, and dimensional requirements.
• Strong understanding of measurements, tolerances, and quality inspection.
• Experience with Magnaflux or magnetic particle inspection is a plus.
• Ability to recognize defective materials and unusual machine conditions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
• Ability to work independently while following established procedures and specifications.
