Description
The Assistant Designer will support the Design team in developing trend-right, commercially successful girls' apparel collections that align with the brand's aesthetic and customer expectations. This role assists throughout the product development lifecycle, from initial concept through production, while ensuring seasonal deadlines and account-specific requirements are met.
Working closely with Design, Merchandising, Sales, Technical Design, Product Development, and overseas partners, the Assistant Designer will help execute innovative product that reflects emerging trends while maintaining quality, value, and brand consistency.

Responsibilities
Design & Product Development
  • Assist in developing seasonal girls' apparel collections that support brand direction, customer needs, and business objectives.
  • Create flat sketches, colorways, CADs, and presentation boards using Adobe Illustrator.
  • Assist in preparing detailed tech packs, construction details, and product specifications.
  • Support the execution of seasonal product from concept through sample development and production.
  • Review and organize incoming samples, documenting comments and preparing revisions.
  • Research boys' fashion trends, color direction, fabrics, trims, prints, graphics, silhouettes, and competitive products.
  • Shop retail and online marketplaces regularly to identify emerging trends, competitive offerings, and product opportunities.
  • Help maintain seasonal design boards, inspiration materials, and product archives.
  • Assist with account-specific product requests, updates, and requirements.
Product Execution
  • Communicate regularly with overseas factories and vendors regarding sample development, artwork, corrections, and approvals.
  • Track sample status and ensure development milestones are met according to the production calendar.
  • Assist with sample reviews, measuring garments, documenting fit and construction comments, and preparing approval packages.
  • Support fabric, trim, print, graphic, and color development throughout the season.
  • Ensure design files, tech packs, and product information remain accurate, organized, and up to date.
  • Assist with product approvals, corrections, and updates throughout the development process.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Senior Designers, Merchandising, Sales, Product Development, and Technical Design throughout the product development process.
  • Assist in preparing line review presentations, customer meetings, and seasonal assortment presentations.
  • Work closely with the Technical Design team to communicate design intent during fittings and sample reviews.
  • Help maintain accurate product information and communicate updates across cross-functional teams.
  • Support additional design initiatives and special projects as assigned.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field
  • 1-2 years of apparel design experience, preferably within children's or girls' apparel
  • Experience designing or supporting Girls' Sportswear, Layette, Swimwear, and/or Outerwear is preferred
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator; Photoshop experience is a plus
  • Ability to create technical flats, CADs, and tech packs
  • Strong understanding of garment construction, fabrics, trims, color, prints, and graphics
  • Knowledge of the children's apparel market and current girls' fashion trends
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive, hands-on, team-first mindset
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Hybrid Work Schedule
4 days a week in the office, Friday work from home
New York Pay Rate $55,000 - $60,000
