Position Overview
The Head Softball Coach reports directly to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals. The position is responsible for organizing and supervising the overall sports program, developing athletes' skills and teamwork, and fostering personal growth through mentorship and leadership. This role ensures compliance with athletic policies, promotes sportsmanship, and supports a positive team culture.
Position Purpose
The Head Softball Coach position fosters skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship while serving as a positive role model for student-athletes.
Primary Responsibilities
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
  • Program Leadership & Supervision
    • Organize, lead, and oversee all aspects of the athletic program.
    • Develop and implement effective training programs, strategies, and game plans.
    • Supervise, support, and mentor assistant and middle school coaches.
    • Establish a positive, organized, and inclusive team culture.
  • Athlete Development & Mentorship
    • Instruct student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, conditioning, and sport-specific techniques.
    • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, accountability, and character development.
    • Monitor and support the academic progress, personal growth, and overall well-being of student-athletes.
    • Provide appropriate guidance and mentorship to help student-athletes reach their athletic and personal goals.
    • Assist student-athletes with college, career, and advanced educational opportunities when appropriate.
  • Team & Game Management
    • Plan and conduct effective practices, training sessions, and team activities.
    • Manage game-day operations, including player assignments, substitutions, lineups, and game strategy.
    • Evaluate athlete performance and make adjustments to practices, training, and game plans as needed.
    • Ensure the team follows league, district, conference, and state athletic policies and expectations.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Implement appropriate injury-prevention, health, safety, and emergency-response procedures.
    • Ensure student-athletes meet all participation and eligibility requirements, including physical examinations, required forms, and parental/guardian consent.
    • Maintain appropriate supervision of student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and team activities.
    • Establish, communicate, and consistently enforce team rules and behavioral expectations.
    • Report injuries and other safety concerns appropriately and maintain required documentation.
  • Administrative & Public Relations
    • Collaborate with the athletic director regarding scheduling, transportation, facilities, equipment, and budget needs.
    • Maintain accurate records of equipment, program needs, participation, and other required documentation.
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, parents/guardians, school staff, administrators, and community members.
    • Support fundraising, recognition, and promotional activities that benefit the athletic program.
    • Attend required meetings, professional development opportunities, and other school or athletic department functions.
    • Serve as a positive representative of the school and athletic program at all times.

Qualifications
The successful candidate can organize and supervise a total sports program. Additional demonstrated qualifications include:
  • Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
  • Has substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
  • Must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.

Licensing Requirements
No licensure is required for this position.
Salary and Benefits
The starting pay for this position is $6,132 and is based on 2026-2027 Addendum Schedule C.
