JOB SUMMARY:

Represents and maintains the standards of the Recreation Department by officiating, refereeing and/or supervising/scoring adult sports leagues in a professional manner.

TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:

Field and Equipment Preparation:

  • Transport soccer equipment to the field and ensure proper setup before games, including goals, nets, cones, and boundary markings.
  • Confirm field conditions are safe and ready for play.

Roster Management:

  • Collect and verify team rosters before each game, ensuring all players have signed and updated their information.

Game Officiating/Referee:

  • Serve as the on-field official, enforcing league rules while promoting fair play, sportsmanship, and a fun atmosphere for all participants.
  • Make consistent and impartial calls during game play.

Rule Clarification and Inquiries:

  • Respond to participant questions regarding game rules, procedures, and any concerns that arise during the event.
  • Provide clear explanations to promote understanding and a positive experience.

Conflict Resolution:

  • Direct appropriate player behavior and settle disputes on the field in a calm and professional manner.
  • Enforce the leagues zero-tolerance policy for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Record Keeping and Communication:

  • Accurately record game scores, significant incidents, and attendance.
  • Submit nightly game results and any notable occurrences to the program supervisor promptly.

Administrative Support:

  • Officiate games, keep score, clarify and enforce game rules, and administer league policies as needed to ensure smooth operations.
  • Step in as a timekeeper or substitute supervisor in the absence of a referee.

Required Experience:

Must possess a solid understanding of soccer rules and gameplay, either through prior officiating experience, participation in organized soccer, or equivalent experience in sports programming.

Preferred Experience:

Previous experience officiating/scorekeeping sports leagues.

Certification from governing body in applicable sport (i.e. USSF Soccer Referee)
