DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Sports & Fitness Program Monitor supports various programs at the Anthem Community Center and Park. This flexible, team-oriented role involves assisting with leagues, refereeing, coaching clinics, overseeing fitness operations, and leading outdoor youth activities-all with a strong focus on safety, community, and teamwork.

  • Monitor sports activities at the Community Center and park fields.
  • Assist with the organization and supervision of youth and adult recreation leagues, sports clinics, and special events.
  • Serve as a referee, coach, or assistant during games, skills sessions, and recreation activities.
  • Enforce established rules and safety protocols during all activities.
  • Maintain order, structure, and a positive environment during programs and facility use.
  • Promote upcoming programs, events, and fitness offerings to participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Greet and interact with residents, participants, and guests in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Support and lead sports and fitness programming including basketball, soccer, volleyball, kickball, and pickleball.
  • Officiate games using current rules and maintain fair, safe play.
  • Coach or assist with youth skill clinics; must be open to learning and assisting in sports beyond your primary specialty.
  • Serve as a league coach when needed and be open to cross-sport coaching support.
  • Line and prepare athletic fields for youth baseball and softball games for partner organizations.
  • Oversee the fitness center, ensuring a clean, safe, and organized space.
  • Provide leadership for TRAIL (Teen Outdoor Leadership) outdoor recreation programs.
  • Teach and guide youth volunteers through the Jr. Sports & Fitness Leader Program.
  • Enforce facility policies and ensure participant safety at all times.
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings and required trainings.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date timecard.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Sports & Fitness Manager.

Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:ย ย 

  • Education: A strong knowledge of sports, previous experience in a related position helpful but not required.ย 
  • Experience: Experience with children and /or adults in an organized program setting highly preferred.
  • Must have aptitude for detail, highly effective interpersonal and problem solving skills. Excellent communication skills are also required in for this position.ย ย ย 
  • CPR & First Aid certifications are helpful, but not required.
  • Applicants must be available to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays! Early/late shifts may be required and days of the week (Monday - Sunday) will be scheduled based on the need of the Sports department Applicants must be at least 16 years of age
  • Work location- Anthem Community Center -41130 N. Freedom Way, Anthem.


WORK ENVIRONMENTย 

  • Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes, and delaysย 
  • Must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health, and environmental concerns
  • Must be able to work effectively with positive attitude and demeanor in an environment which may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of duties
  • Position will alternate between working indoors in a controlled climate to an outdoors setting with variable climateย 
  • Personal protective equipment (PPEs) to include proper footwear, headgear, and maintenance attire should be worn for protection as appropriate
  • The employee may be in the vicinity of site-specific vegetation and native species of reptiles and mammals, subjecting the employee to possible injury from contact or bites
