Job Title: Sports Manager

Works Closely with: Sports Managers, Support Services, Customer Service, Scheduler

Status: Exempt, Fulltime

Job Purpose: Operate and supervise entire sports program in assigned school area; including player recruitment, coach management and training, team formation, scheduling of practice facilities, determination of KIDSPORTS procedures and sports rules, and management of all regular season and tournament games.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Recruit and assign youth sport team coaches.

· Form teams as required at the close of registration including team splits and school combinations.

· Communicate names of assigned coaches to public, front office and equipment staff and scheduler.

· Orient, evaluate, counsel, reward and discipline assigned coaches.

· Run required coaches organizational and scheduling meetings in each sport.

· Assist, provide needed resources and solve problems for assigned coaches.

· Recruit participants in each school of assigned area through personal school visits, distribution of sports brochures, etc.

· Assist, answer questions and solve problems for registered participants and their parents in assigned area.

· Maintain positive relations with each school in assigned area through contact with school administrators, secretaries, and custodial personnel.

· Maintain positive relations with government and parks officials.

· Maintain accurate inventory of facilities and their availability for each school in assigned area.

· Manage all use of school and city parks facilities in assigned areas for team practices.

· Assist Scheduler in accurate use of school and city parks facilities in assigned areas for games.

· Communicate team formation decisions to public, front office and equipment staff and scheduler.

· Assist in operation of all regular season game activities.

· Promote post-season tournament entry to formed teams and assigned coaches in assigned areas.

· Supervise closely all tournament games and activities.

· Manage all aspects of one assigned sport including management of Advisory Committee, definition of Rule Modifications, definition of league season, operation of tournament, publication of coach materials, distribution of schedules, coordination of coach training opportunities and evaluation of season.

· Perform additional duties within Sports Department as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises volunteer coaches.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the theory, techniques and equipment used in a wide variety of sports; particularly football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball and softball. Possess excellent public relations skills and public speaking ability; excellent written, oral communication skills. Shows a high degree of organizational aptitude and ability to train and counsel others; use independent judgment; and use initiative. Must be skilled in the use of computers and technologically savvy – including Microsoft Windows programs, including Outlook, Excel, Word, etc. Must work cooperatively with others and create a constructive relationship with staff and the public. Must be comfortable working against continual deadlines.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in related field and progressive work experience in related field, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above-described duties.

Working Conditions: Work performed indoors and outdoors. Schedule is varied - requires some weekends, evenings and holidays.
