At GBH, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and Wednesday, Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
NEPM is a multi-media organization producing and broadcasting radio, TV and digital content to western Massachusetts from our studios in Springfield. Our public radio services offer a mix of NPR news, classical and jazz.
JOB OVERVIEW
UMass student will work alongside NEPM senior reporter to learn the basics and produce local sports stories to air on the radio and appear on NEPM's website and social channels. This position does not have a remote option; it is based at NEPM's office in downtown Springfield.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reports to senior reporter and News Department Executive Editor
  • Work independently and to cover sports feature content in western Massachusetts.
  • Schedule and perform interviews in the studio, by telephone and in the field.
  • Report, voice and mix audio stories. Draft digital stories. Create social posts.

SKILL SET
  • Interested in journalism and sports
  • Familiarity with news writing required
  • Familiarity with interviewing preferred
  • Familiarity with digital audio production preferred
  • Knowledge of Canva and Adobe Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop) required
  • Ability to work under deadline
  • Access to a car and ability to drive preferred

  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work and presentation

JOB STATUS
Paid Internship $17/hour (Part-time 16 - 20 hours)
INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
GBH internships provide students with valuable work experience and real-world knowledge across many different fields of study, from TV and radio production to web design, accounting, law, and other administrative arenas.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
  • Internship Dates: September 14th to December 4th.
  • Minimum of 8 hours per week (all in one full day), could include an additional day if student schedule permits. Must be available to work on Friday evenings.
  • Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wi-Fi.
  • Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States.

Salary Range
