CBS Atlanta, the brand-new station in the CBS stations group, is seeking an experienced, thoughtful, and collaborative leader to oversee day-to-day newsroom operations in the role of Assistant News Director. This person will drive all aspects of the editorial mission and work closely with the News Director to implement strategic planning for content across all platforms. This role will have a special emphasis around the CBS News Atlanta streaming platform.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

This leader is a key decision maker in the newsroom, ensuring all content meets journalistic standards as well as the strategic vision set in partnership with the VP/News Director.

Exhibit deep understanding of the news mission and work closely with reporters, producers, EPs and the assignment desk to make sure the entire team is completing the mission daily.

Develop best in class coverage plans that are thoughtful and comprehensive for breaking news and longer-term projects, always remembering the importance of context and balance.

Maximize the news, weather and sports experience for the audience in a state-of the-art full VR environment.

Work with News Director & Creative Services VP to develop a strategic plan for placement and promotion of enterprise content.

Must be an innovator who looks for opportunities to acquire new viewers through data-driven experimentation with content and production.

Must have a strong track record of managing projects of all kinds with excellent attention to detail and timely completion.

Collaborate closely with all members of the team, including station attorneys and CBS Standards, to develop ethical and balanced reporting.

Protect the culture by seeking out and including perspectives from all corners of the newsroom.

Conduct regular check-ins with members of the team and offer feedback and mentoring.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

6+ years in local news management and 2+ years in a major market required

Bachelor's degree in journalism required

Knowledge of Atlanta DMA is strongly preferred

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be willing to work on weekends, holidays and overnight hours as needed

Must have deep knowledge of all functions of the news operation in order to effectively "pull the levers" to ensure content/shows are crafted to the highest standards and efficiency

Must embrace an "always on" mentality, willing to take calls, answer emails and troubleshoot newsroom issues 24/7
