POSITION GOAL
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan, implement and administer comprehensive interscholastic athletic program for boys and girls at the high school and middle
school level including intramural, varsity, junior varsity and club sports.
• Assist principals in the selection and development of high school or middle school athletic directors and/or sport coaches.
• Develop fall, winter and spring sport schedules for all middle school, varsity and junior varsity interscholastic sport contests.
• Schedule and re-schedule officials for games and contests by coordinating with a variety of official associations.
• Supervise sports booking commissioners in the operation of the officials associations assignments, disciplinary action, and compliance with Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) rules, registration and clearance.
• Know, interpret, and enforce applicable rules for middle, junior varsity and varsity scholastic sports.
• Develop and implement an annual athletic director training manual for all middle and high school athletic directors.
• Organize, oversee, and support Broward County Athletic Association (BCAA) special events including the annual Scholar Athlete Banquets, county championships, all-star contests, recruiting fairs, coaches and athletic director trainings, combines and skill
camps for interscholastic sport programs.
• Coordinate district participation in Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) District, regional and state athletic playoff and
championship series events involving Broward County Athletic Association (BCAA) conference teams.
• Coordinate game day operations, which includes ensuring the availability of adequate police, security and emergency medical
services, for all district sponsored interscholastic contests and rental events at Lockhart Stadium.
• Work with professional sport franchises, community organizations, and tournament sponsors in the promotion of athletic events and trainings to benefit students and coaches.
• Work with the Department of Logistics on preparing contract bids and catalogue purchases for all athletic equipment purchased by the school district by ensuring that all athletic equipment purchased by schools and the district meet all local, state, and
• federal standards.
• Ensure that the essential personal safety equipment required for interscholastic sports, such as football shoulder pads, helmets, etc.,
meets safety requirements and is available at all times by overseeing and coordinating the reconditioning/replacement of equipment.
• May occasionally be required perform tasks which require the physical ability to lift material or equipment weighing an average of thirty (30) pounds.
• Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
• Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
• Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
• Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
• Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
An earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; hold or be eligible for a valid Florida Teacher's Certificate.
• Minimum of five (5) years of full-time teaching experience, including recent experience as an athletic director at the middle or high
school level.
• Requires demonstrated experience directing a comprehensive interscholastic athletic program and working knowledge of Florida
High School Athletic Association, National Federation of High School, and Broward County Athletic Association rules and regulations.
• Computer skills as required for the position
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Prior experience at the high school level with the Broward County School District is preferred.
• Bilingual skills preferred.
SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS-frequency, contact, purpose
Position requires frequent contact with middle/high school principals, athletic directors, head coaches, and Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Commissioners to resolve issues and oversee the day-to-day interscholastic athletic operations for the Broward County School District.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Medium Work: May require exerting up to 50 pounds of pressure occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and /or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
