The Sports Director develops, organizes, and implements high quality sports leagues and programs for youth and adults.
Job Description
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Sports Director develops, organizes, and implements high-quality sports leagues and programs for youth and adults. The Sports Director will be responsible for cultivating partnerships with community organizations that will benefit program participant experiences through collaboration. The Sports Director will be an integral team player in all areas of the YMCA.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in sports or recreation related field or equivalent is preferred.
  • One to two years related experience preferred.
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program specific certifications. Typical requirements within 60 days of hire include: completion of Background Check, Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, First Aid, and AED.
  • Ability to communicate and relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Strong management and decision-making skills including the ability to influence, engage, and lead others to new levels of effectiveness and programmatic impact.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated, results-driven, detail-oriented, and adaptable.
  • Proficient computer skills with experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office, program software, and social media.

Essential Functions
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands youth & adult sports program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits. Oversees maintenance and inventory of all sports related equipment and supplies.
  • Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts orientation meetings, and training for coaches.
  • Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; recruits, trains, and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines, and handbooks.
  • Purchases and distributes team uniforms, premium items, and team photographs.
  • Organizes and conducts sports camps and clinics.
  • Conducts research to identify and implement new sports programs. Develops peer relationships to meet current sports trends.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Develops marketing and promotional strategies to increase awareness and interest in the sports program.
  • Oversees the distribution of all sports program information. This includes website, e-marketing, social media, flyer, speaking engagements, etc.
  • Oversees the registration process and enforces all deadlines for sports programs.
  • Coordinates the use of YMCA sports facilities for rentals, program activities, and events.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Develops and monitors department budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates participation trends.
  • Other duties as needed to assist in the overall successful operation of the YMCA.
