JOB TITLE: Competitive Sports Assistant
PAY RATE: $11.00 per hour
SUPERVISOR: Assistant Director of Clubs & Intramural Sports
JOB FUNCTION: Serve as an administrative and field assistant for our Competitive Sports Program! This role is integral in supporting our day-to-day operations for the Intramural and Club Sports programs. Sports Assistants will hold regular office hours to complete administrative work related to data entry, club sports travel, and program reports as well as field shifts for club sports practices and assisting the Sports Supervisors with Intramural programming throughout the week. Assistants should have a professional attitude and be capable of working independently while completing weekly and monthly tasks along with other assistants to promote a welcoming and fun work environment.
HOURS: Up to 20 hours per week. Flexible work schedules (morning, afternoon, and night shifts Monday-Friday)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Complete office hours for tasks related to data entry, club travel, and program reporting
  • Assist Supervisors with preparation of necessary equipment for shifts as well as set-up and tear-down of equipment
  • Set-up/Unlock field spaces for Club Sports team practices during the week
  • Respond to emails for various participants and club members for scheduling and questions
  • Assist with scheduling of staff and teams for programming
  • Communicate with all staff professionally and in a timely manner
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Currently enrolled in 6 or more credit hours at Sam Houston State University
  • Successfully pass the State of Texas criminal background check
  • Completion of SHSU student employee compliance training and any additional trainings required by the department and university
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Able to work multiple days of the week Monday through Friday
  • Possess a passion for working with people and around sports
  • Be able to work in an active, crowded, and fast-paced environment
  • Must have an increased focus on being punctual, reliable, and dependable
  • Excellent communication skills and the able to work with a wide variety of personalities
  • Open to constructive feedback while also keeping a positive and upbeat attitude
  • Ability to handle conflict as well as confront patrons in a calm and professional manner
