JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Sr. Manager, Sports Training amp; Competition –West Coast
Department: Programs
Supervisor: Regional Director
Job Role:
The Sr. Manager, Sports Training amp; Competition is responsible for creating quality competition opportunities and ensuring year-round training options exist for athletes and volunteers within assigned areas. Additionally, the Sr. Manager Sport Training amp; Competition is tasked with managing the sports staff within assigned areas.
Qualifications:
  • BS/BA preferred
  • 5+ year’s office experience
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented
  • Good written and communication skills, including tele/video conferencing methods
  • Extensive computer experience in word processing, database input and management, Microsoft Suite required
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects including the handling of routine administrative paperwork, phone calls and filing. Produce ad hoc reports as required.
  • Interest in sports and/or intellectual disabilities helpful, but not required
  • Knowledge of Games Management System (GMS) preferred
  • Regular attendance required
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of all Special Olympic Florida training and competitions in assigned areas, ensuring a high-quality experience for all participants
  • Directly manage sports training and competition in Areas 5 amp; 7
  • Secure Exhibition and Regional Games site venues, insurance, and EMT services
  • Supervise Managers of Sports Administration and Managers of Sports Training and Competition in assigned areas
  • Ensure that all staff is properly trained on Special Olympics Florida policies and procedures and office protocol
  • Maintain current knowledge of Special Olympics Florida sports rules, policies, and procedures
  • Lead team meetings to ensure progress toward strategic goals and timely planning for competitions
  • Lead after-action meetings following each competition to ensure thoughtful and thorough reflection and necessary adjustments in future planning
  • Send post-event surveys to all stakeholders and analyze results
  • Collaborate with Regional Director to develop comprehensive post-event reports to illustrate event successes, challenges, survey results, and finances.
  • Work collaboratively with Managers of Sports Administration to ensure all athlete forms are processed and cleared within the set deadlines
  • Monitor sports training and competition calendar to adhere to all deadlines
  • Ensure coaches are properly trained in all SOFL policies and procedures including but not limited to sport rules, general rules, administrative processes, communication procedures, travel policy, and housing policy
  • Oversee competition preparation in GMS
  • Oversee delegation registration for all levels of competition
  • Oversee the inventory management of equipment, banners, awards, uniforms, and other items
  • Contract with food vendors and devise meal plans, costs, and menus. Ensure that special dietary needs are met
  • Ability to travel on bi-weekly basis to offices in the assigned region
  • Attend Exhibition, Regional, and State Games
  • Other duties as assigned
Special Requirements:
  • Must be able to travel and complete weekend and evening duties as assigned
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
