Open-Rank Faculty Position in Data Science-Sports AnalyticsJOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARYFlorida Polytechnic University invites applications for a tenure-equivalent faculty position in Data Science at the rank of assistant professor, associate professor, or full professor, to begin June 2026 or August 2026. The faculty member would serve in an embedded capacity with the Lakeland Flying Tigers, a Minor League Baseball team of the Florida State League and the Single-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.
This faculty member will teach on-campus classes and conduct research on sports analytics/performance projects with the Flying Tigers. The successful candidate will have
experience in the sport analytics applications of predictive modeling, causal modeling, and/or time series analysis on large data sets. Interest or experience related to injury risk and mitigation, or to the analysis of biomechanical data in a causal manner, is desirable. The ability to approach problems from new perspectives is highly desired. The faculty member is expected to initiate and explore potential programs, tracks, or certificates in Sport Analytics and possibly a future Sport Analytics Lab at the university.
The Department of Data Science and Business Analytics is home to two undergraduate degree programs (BS in Data Science and BS in Business Analytics) and two graduate degree programs (MS in Engineering Management and MS in Data Science).
Applicants must demonstrate commitment to teaching and teaching excellence in support of the department's degree programs. In addition, individuals must be prepared to establish a personal research presence through participation in extramural funding efforts, publication of research results in leading scientific journals in their discipline, and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students. Candidates are expected to assist in the department's broader educational mission.JOB DESCRIPTION

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Evidence of effective university-level teaching

For the rank of Assistant Professor: Ph.D. in Data Science, Sport Analytics, Business Analytics, Statistics, Economics, or a closely related field earned before the start date.

For the rank of Associate Professor: Ph.D. in Data Science, Sport Analytics, Business Analytics, Statistics, Economics, or a closely related field.

Must currently hold the rank of Associate Professor or be eligible to apply for that rank at the current institution.

For the rank of Full Professor: Ph.D. in Data Science, Sport Analytics, Business Analytics, Statistics, Economics, or a closely related field.

Must currently hold the rank of Professor or have 6+ years at the rank of Associate Professor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates should possess:

Teaching and/or relevant research/industry experience related to sports analytics/performance research.

Experience in curriculum delivery and development.

Experience with students' academic advising and mentoring.

Demonstrated ability to conduct independent and interdisciplinary applied research.

Experience as a contributing author or sole author on research proposals.

Active participation in professional activities and organizations.

Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with a broad campus community.

COMPENSATION: Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and rank.
