How much do sport trading jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 3, 2026, the average hourly pay for sport trading in the United States is $36.54, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $22.36 and $46.15 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is sport trading?

Sport trading involves buying and selling bets on sporting events, often using betting exchanges or specialized platforms. Unlike traditional gambling, sport traders aim to make profits by taking advantage of shifting odds and market inefficiencies, rather than simply picking winners. The process is similar to financial trading, where positions can be opened and closed before an event finishes. Successful sport traders use data analysis, market trends, and real-time information to inform their decisions. This career requires strong analytical skills, discipline, and a solid understanding of both sports and market dynamics.

What are the typical challenges faced by sport traders, and how can they be managed effectively?

Sport traders often encounter challenges such as rapidly changing odds, managing risk, and staying updated with real-time sports data. Adapting to market volatility and making quick, informed decisions under pressure are essential. Successful traders use advanced analytical tools, maintain strict discipline with their trading strategies, and continuously monitor live events to minimize losses. Regular collaboration with data analysts and other traders also helps in sharing insights and improving overall performance.

What is the difference between Sport Trading vs Sports Analyst?

AspectSport Trading

Sport Trading involves buying and selling betting odds or sports securities to profit from market movements, often requiring knowledge of betting markets, risk management, and financial analysis. Sports Analysts analyze sports data, provide insights, and forecast outcomes, focusing on statistical analysis and reporting. Both roles may require similar credentials like sports or finance-related certifications and work in the sports or betting industry. However, Sport Trading is more focused on market transactions, while Sports Analysts emphasize data interpretation and reporting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sports Trader, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sports Trader, you need strong analytical skills, mathematical proficiency, and a solid understanding of sports markets—often supported by a degree in finance, mathematics, or a related field. Familiarity with trading platforms, odds modeling software, and statistical analysis tools such as Excel or Python is typically required. Excellent decision-making, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure accurate market assessments, effective risk management, and optimal trading performance in a fast-paced and high-stakes environment.

Job description

Trading Assistant

At Underdog, we make sports more fun. Our thesis is simple: build the best products and we'll build the biggest company in the space, because there's so much more to be built for sports fans. We're just over five years in, and we're one of the fastest-growing sports companies ever, most recently valued at $1.3B. And it's still the early days.

We've built and scaled multiple games and products across fantasy sports, sports betting, and prediction markets, all united in one seamless, simple, easy to use, intuitive and fun app.

Underdog isn't for everyone. One of our core values is give a sh*t. The people who win here are the ones who care, push, and perform. If that's you, come join us.

Winning as an Underdog is more fun.

As a Trading Assistant, you'll be responsible for grading our Pick'em and Sportsbook projections, and settling games in a timely manner. Additionally, you'll support the Trading team by working on trading shifts, where you will manage posting and pricing of markets. This is a full-time hourly position; candidates must be able to work nights and weekends.

About the Role and Why It's Unique:
  • Enter player and game stats
  • Track games we offer in the app to ensure entries are paid with correct stats as markets are determined in real time
  • Work within operations for football, esports, tennis, golf, soccer, baseball, basketball, and more
  • Take on more responsibilities as you grow into the role
Who You Are:
  • A sports fanatic (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, EPL, Golf, UFC, Nascar, F1, eSports & more) who is knowledgeable about DFS and Fantasy sports props
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Committed to being a true team player
  • Ability to work nights and weekends around the sports calendar
  • Interest in sports betting
Even Better If You Have:
  • Prior gaming/sports betting experience
  • Prior experience with statistics, score keeping, or other detail oriented tasks
  • Prior startup experience

Our target starting base salary range for this position is $20/hr, plus target equity. The starting base salary will depend on a number of factors including the candidate's skills and experience, among other things.

What we can offer you:

  • Flexible PTO (we're extremely flexible with the exception of the first few weeks before & into the NFL season)
  • 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave
  • A $500 home office allowance
  • A connected virtual first culture with a highly engaged distributed workforce
  • 5% 401k match, FSA, company paid health, dental, vision plan options for employees and dependents

We're a remote-first company and value in-person connection. That said, we expect everyone to gather 2-3 times per year for team and company offsites, trainings, and more.

This position may require sports betting licensure based on certain state regulations.
