Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The mission of the Department of Nutrition Sciences is to fostering excellence in nutrition and dietetics education by empowering diverse undergraduate and graduate students through innovative learning experiences to prepare future nutrition professionals who use evidence-based practices to enhance health and wellness across all populations. The Department of Nutrition Sciences offers competitive distance education programs of study leading to Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics (accredited DPD), Master of Science degree in Nutritional Science with concentrations in Community Nutrition Educator, Gerontological Nutrition, Pediatric Nutrition, Sports Dietetics, or Obesity and Weight Management and Master of Science degree in Nutritional Sciences with Dietetics Concentration (accredited GP) that includes supervised practice to be eligible for the Registered Dietitian credentialing exam. Experiential learning is utilized in each program to include diverse multi-cultural and interdisciplinary perspectives of family studies. Faculty members are actively engaged in research that contributes to the body of knowledge in Nutrition Sciences.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position will teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses in nutrition and dietetics through on-line instruction with some fac-to-face training of Future Education Model Graduate Program students; advise students; evaluate and grade students' assignments in a timely manner and offer appropriate and timely feedback to gauge students' progress; follow university timelines and procedures related to grading and submission of early warnings, mid-term and final examination grades; supervise/advise students research projects, thesis or internships; participate in normal functioning of the Department of Nutrition Sciences, College of Health and Sciences, and the University including participating in departmental meetings and university obligatory activities including events and student recruitment activities. This position is expected to engage in research and scholarly activities, publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at professional conference and secure external funding to meet tenure-track requirements. Inclusion of students in scholarly activities is highly encourages. This position requires presence on campus for student support and university events requiring department presence as
directed by the department chair. Strong technology training, skills and ability to deliver distance education courses are required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate should possess prior achievements in teaching and research. Demonstrate adequate potential to be successful in these areas. Experience in online teaching is preferred. The candidate should have experience as a Registered Dietitian or in the field of nutrition and dietetics. The candidate must show ability to teach various courses in Nutritional Sciences which can include Nutritional Biochemistry, Biostatistics, Sports Nutrition, Food Service and Management, Gerontological Nutrition, Weight Management, Obesity and Diabetes, Nutrition Education, Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition Therapy and Disease States or Research in Food and Nutrition. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to conduct and direct research in specialty area and the ability to recruit, advise and mentor students. The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and anility to work both independently and collaboratively with others.
Minimum Education/Experience
Doctorate(completed by date of appointment) in Nutrition or related field
from an accredited university. This position also strongly prefers credentialing as a Registered Dietitian and/or extensive work experience in the field of dietetics. Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate or graduate courses in Nutrition: strong technology skills related to delivery of distance educations courses; documented record of scholarly achievement; and potential for grantsmanship and publication.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) credential preferred.
