Job description

General Summary:

A Paralegal in the Consumer Fraud Section will provide support to Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs), investigators, and fraud examiners during the investigation and prosecution of cases. This position reports directly to the Chief ADA of the section.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • File Cause Numbers and To do's that need to be checked daily and completed in a timely manner.
  • Attend meetings with Assistant District Attorney's (ADAs), witnesses, targets and other personnel to take notes.
  • Research target individuals and companies.
  • Identify the names and contact information of potential complainants related to investigations or filed cases.
  • Assist ADAs with preparations for presentations of cases to a grand jury or during trials, help with courtroom presentation of voluminous documents.
  • Draft memos and reports to document tasks on investigations and filed cases.
  • Train interns on tasks such as generation of grand jury subpoenas.
  • Monitor the dafinancialsubpoena@dao.hctx email inbox and prepare grand jury subpoenas for law enforcement officers as requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Strong organizational and case-management abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with co-workers, government agencies and law enforcement.
  • Familiarity with Helios
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Houston Police Department (HPD) and Harris County Sheriff Office (HCSO).

Hours:

  • This is a full time, in-person position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary based on the business needs of the department.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies or a paralegal certificate

Salary (Starting):

  • $31.54 hourly/ $65,603.20 annually
