Job description

TITLE: Elementary Vice Principal of Student & Spiritual Life

DEPARTMENT: Elementary

REPORTS TO: Elementary School Principal


Position Overview:

The Vice Principal of Student & Spiritual Life plays a key role in shaping a positive, engaging, and supportive student experience. This position is dedicated to fostering a campus environment where students thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually and where school culture reflects core values such as respect, responsibility, and belonging. The Vice Principal leads student life initiatives, promotes restorative approaches to discipline, and collaborates with staff to ensure a safe and supportive school climate. In partnership with the Principal, the Vice Principal leads in the development of spiritual programming and helps integrate faith into the broader student life experience-ensuring that spiritual growth is naturally woven into the rhythms of campus life.


Key Responsibilities


Student Life & Discipline

  1. Under the supervision of the principal, evaluates and enhances student life and campus culture using a data-driven approach.
  2. Manages student discipline, addressing social and behavioral concerns with a restorative, faith-based approach.
  3. Maintains records of behavioral incidents and uses data to inform interventions and improve campus culture.
  4. Overseas and monitors the attendance program.
  5. Fields parent concerns (emails, calls, meetings) and works toward collaborative solutions.
  6. Works closely with the principal on all aspects of school and student safety.
  7. Facilitates student leadership through leading out in the student ambassador program.
  8. Works with the school counselor to develop programming that supports Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).


Spiritual Programming & Faith Development

  1. Responsible for organizing and executing all chapels and Week of Worship
  2. Develops a yearly chapel plan with core value themes, speakers, and class participation.
  3. Creates a weekly flow chart in collaboration with the leading classroom for each chapel and provides a speaker outline to the Principal by Tuesday.
  4. Works with constituent pastors to provide opportunities for pastoral presence on campus through Bible studies, class worships, lunch hangout, speaking at chapels.
  5. Collaborates with parents, pastors, and staff to celebrate cultural heritage months in Grounded Kids Assemblies:
    a. Hispanic American Heritage Month (September)
    b. Black History Month (February)
    c. Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (May)
  6. Plans and coordinates Grounded Kids Assemblies, focusing on the school's spiritual theme (monthly).
  7. Chairs the Elementary Student Life and Spiritual Life committee, leading quarterly meetings with teacher reps and administration.
  8. Plans farewell chapel and yearbook reveal with the student life/ spiritual life committee.
  9. Organizes and produces the 6th Grade Dedication Ceremony and prepares a spiritual message for Kindergarten Graduation.


Community & Outreach:

  1. Plans and organizes campus-wide service projects (e.g., annual Canned Food Drive).


Faculty & Staff Spiritual Support:

  1. Plans and prepares Friday Faculty Worships.
  2. Leads staff worships as needed.
  3. Sends out a weekly prayer request list every Friday.


Supervision & School Operations

  1. Oversees field trip logistics, ensuring a smooth implementation.
  2. Guides prospective families on school tours throughout the year and summer.
  3. Approves and manages Tandem Calendar events for Elementary and Chan Auditorium.
  4. Attends monthly Home & School Parent Meetings.
  5. Fills in for supervision areas that need coverage (e.g., crosswalk, lunch supervision).
  6. Provides administrative presence at school events and activities
  7. Performs other leadership duties in alignment with school needs and strategic goals, as assigned by the Principal.


Committee Involvement

  1. Chairs the Elementary Student Life and Spiritual Life Committee, leading quarterly meetings with teacher reps and Principal.
  2. Serves in relevant CC-12 Committees, such as Ad Council, and/or Instructional Council


Seasonal & Event-Based Responsibilities

  1. Assists with student placement decisions during the summer.
  2. Plans and coordinates Red Ribbon Week (drug awareness & prevention).
  3. Submits a monthly "Student life" update to the Administrative Assistant.
  4. Attends PLC meetings to support instructional leadership.
  5. Collaborates with JH/HS Chaplain to ensure a cohesive TK-12 spiritual program.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  2. NAD Teacher Certification.
  3. Master's degree in Administration and Leadership preferred.
  4. Minimum of 5 years of experience in education.
  5. Committed Christian leader with a passion for faith-based education.
  6. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  7. Experience in student discipline, conflict resolution, and faith-based mentoring.
  8. Ability to lead worship, organize events, and provide spiritual guidance.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience

Minimum of a bachelor's degree in education, single subject for secondary or BA in Elementary Education or equivalent. SDA Teacher Certification with endorsement in relevant subject area.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents and procedure manuals. Ability to create routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with parents, employees, and school administration.

Reasoning Ability

Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs;

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to work independently and maintain confidence. Must be organized and detailed. Must possess skills in working with culturally and ethnically diverse groups. Must possess strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills. Must possess adaptability and creative responses to setbacks and obstacles. Physical Demands
