POSITION PURPOSE

The Spiritual Care Manager (SCM) oversees the delivery of effective Spiritual Care services, manages and coaches the chaplains across the continuum of care within a local community. The Spiritual Care Manager participates directly in the provision of Spiritual Care in proportion to the time available.

The Spiritual Care Manager reports to the Director of Spiritual Care within an Administrative Service Area, with a matrixed reporting relationship to the Local Mission Leader. Chaplains within the local community report directly to the Spiritual Care Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

Exercises leadership over Spiritual Care activities and colleagues across the care continuum of a local community, by managing operations and overseeing the implementation of best practices in alignment with Trinity Health strategy. Models the skills of an effective chaplain in providing Spiritual Care services.

Hires, manages, and provides coaching, mentoring and performance management to all chaplains within the local community.

Collaborates with the Director of Spiritual Care in talent development for chaplains, CPE students (in cooperation with ACPE educator), Spiritual Care volunteers and inter-professional colleagues who themselves provide Spiritual Care and/or screen for Spiritual Care distress and referrals.

Provides direct service as a chaplain, balancing that role with the role of Spiritual Care oversight, contingent upon local needs.

Reports to the Director Spiritual Care (DSP) in the Administrative Service Area and collaborates with the Local Mission Leader in the implementation of Spiritual Care strategies which contribute directly to the achievement of Trinity Health Priority Strategic Aims.

Assists in accessing the necessary resources to implement Spiritual Care priorities.

Promotes the use of the Trinity Health Leadership System (THLS) in planning, implementing and assessing Spiritual Care activities.

Oversees standard best practices for evidence-based Spiritual Care assessments, interventions, and outcomes as documented in the electronic Medical Record.

Assures that there is collaboration with various faith communities across the healthcare continuum within the local community.

Oversees the consistent implementation of essential/standard work.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) via one of the following licensing groups: APC, CASC, NACC, or NAJC, including completion of a Master of Divinity or an equivalent degree from an Association of Theological School accredited seminary or divinity school along with completion of 4 units (1600 hours) of ACPE Spiritual Care.

Must have at least three (3) years of professional team/project leadership experience along with five (5) years of progressively responsible experience managing projects and process improvement initiatives in the area of Spiritual Care or a related field. Pastoral experience is required. At least one (1) year of experience in a healthcare ministry is preferred. An equivalent combination of experience may be considered.

Strong aptitude in project leadership, process improvement, budgetary management, as well as analytical skills required.

Ability to effectively manage and facilitate colleagues within assigned unit/department through strong leadership, communication and negotiation skills. Ability to influence results, garner support and tactfully manage complex relationships and influences within and across the organization.

Must possess flexibility in adapting to changing deadlines, competing priorities and unexpected assignments.

Excellent oral and written communication skills in the primary language of the workplace (English) with evidence of excellent interpersonal skills as well as the ability to present effectively before groups. Must be able to communicate effectively using clinical/medical terminology.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and an ability to learn and utilize other relevant software programs.

Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to set and organize own work priorities, and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.

Must be able to travel within a local community across a continuum of care to the various Trinity Health sites up to 25% of time, as needed.

Must possess the ability to comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures.
