Job description

Spiritual Formation Director
Position Summary
The Spiritual Formation Director leads the implementation, communication, ongoing evaluation, and refinement of the church's Spiritual Formation Pathway in alignment with the Lead Pastor's vision and the mission of Multiply Church Wilmington. This leader helps develop and implement a comprehensive discipleship strategy that equips individuals of all ages to know Christ deeply, grow in biblical maturity, serve faithfully, and make disciples.
Working closely with the Lead Pastor, Family Ministries Director, and other ministry leaders, the Spiritual Formation Director helps align discipleship ministries with the church's mission and creates intentional next steps for measurable spiritual growth.

Essential Responsibilities
Leadership & Vision
  • Develop, communicate, and continually refine the church's Spiritual Formation Pathway in alignment with the Lead Pastor's vision.
  • Create clear and measurable next steps that guide individuals from spiritual consumerism toward mature discipleship.
  • Ensure the pathway remains simple, intentional, and integrated across all church ministries.
  • Evaluate and improve the effectiveness of discipleship environments using appropriate measurable outcomes.

Ministry Oversight
Provide leadership coordination, appropriate oversight for the following areas in partnership with designated team leaders:
  • Each Stage of the Spiritual Formation Pathway
  • Pastoring the Seats
  • Party w/ the Pastors (Quarterly)
  • Multipliers Training (Quarterly)
  • Multipliers Serve Teams (Quarterly)
  • Freedom Groups/Conference (Annually)
  • Practicing the Way (three seasonal offerings)
  • Back to the Gospel (three seasonal offerings)
  • Armored UP Training (three seasonal offerings)
  • Small Groups (six seasonal offerings)
  • Men/Women Groups (twice annually)
  • Level Up Pastoral, Ministerial, Planter Formation

Leader Development
  • Conduct monthly one-on-one check-ins with designated team leaders to provide encouragement, accountability, coaching, and ministry support.
  • Pray regularly with team leaders and encourage their personal spiritual growth.
  • Help leaders identify goals, celebrate wins, and navigate challenges.
  • Equip leaders with resources, training, and opportunities for continued development.

Planning & Administration
  • Assist ministry leaders with basic planning and coordination for approved classes, groups, training sessions, and events.
  • Communicate upcoming needs, challenges, and resource requests to the Lead Pastor or appropriate staff member
  • Submit reimbursement requests and supporting receipts for any approved expenses to the Church Administrator within seven days of purchase.

Collaboration
  • Work closely with church staff and ministry leaders to create and maintain seamless transitions between each Spiritual Formation Stage/Phase.
  • Participate in staff meetings and church-wide planning.
  • Support the overall vision and mission of the church.

Key Ministry Priorities
  • Assist in completing and implementing the Spiritual Formation Pathway.
  • Pastor the seats on Sunday mornings through intentional guest connection and next step follow-up
  • Host, support, and connect with current and potential future Spiritual Formation Team members.
