Vision Prep Job Description: SPED Teacher

โ€œVision Preparatory Charter School prepares kindergarten through fifth grade scholars with the academic and ethical foundation necessary to excel in middle school, thrive in high school and graduate from college.โ€

Responsibilities of a Special Education Teacher:

โ€ข Assess studentsโ€™ skills and determine their educational needs โ€ข Set learning goals for each student, assess their progress, and record their evaluations.

โ€ข Adapt general lessons to meet studentsโ€™ needs

โ€ข Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student โ€ข Plan, organize and assign activities that are specific to each studentโ€™s abilities

โ€ข Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one โ€ข Implement IEPs, assess studentsโ€™ performance, and track their progress โ€ข Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect studentsโ€™ progress and goals

โ€ข Collaborate with other classroom teachers, teacher assistants, school psychologists, learning disabilities specialists, speech/hearing specialists, and school social workers to provide an integrated plan for developing the capacities of their students. For example, they may show a teacher assistant how to work with a student who needs particular attention.

โ€ข Update parents on the progress of their students and enlist parental support with behavior control and home activities designed to supplement their classroom lessons.

โ€ข Discuss studentsโ€™ progress with parents, other teachers, counselors, and administrators

โ€ข Supervise and mentor teacher assistants who work with students with disabilities

โ€ข Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade and from school to life outside of school
